I'm a bit ticked off tonight. I bought paint silkie hatching eggs and they are hatching tonight. first 2 babies are out and one of them is a showgirl.

I paid enough for these eggs that there should not have been any surprises like that. NOT very happy! that had better be the only showgirl but now that taints my whole hatch. will any of these others carry the showgirl gene and not show it?
soo angry. guess that's what the feedback system is all about.

I grew to like my turkeys, they are funny and very tame. I am going to order some Midget White eggs, LOL Now all I need to do is make an incubator...anyone got a small used one for sale?

Ok SCG, I promised to post photos, but they might not be very informative.
Here are the beginning construction photos of the mobile hoop house, which is just barely started!
Large schedule 80 PVC conduit (gray) with smaller PVC connector pipes inserted:

Bottom framework: (it's divided into 2 sections because we plan to house 2 separate groups of chickens in there)

Bent chain-link fence post forms the hoops. You can buy different size benders:

The hoop ends fit perfectly into the white pvc pipe inserts. They're pretty much held by gravity right now, but he'll add a screw later, and the roofing material holds them in place too.
Since this photo was taken, all that has been added are the purlins (roof structure that runs perpendicular to the hoops), so as you can see, it is nowhere near ready to house a chicken! The snow kind of stalled the work, but hopefully there will be progress soon.

I remember you talking about the benders! Great photos, thank you. I'll talk to him this morning and show him.

The good news is the NN gene is dominant. If they have the gene, they have a NN. If they have a bowtie on the neck they have one copy of the gene. Full naked neck (no feathers) and they have two copies of the gene. I have two showgirls and I <3 them!

I am putting turkey eggs in my incubator on easter. 6 Bourbon Reds. I'll have plenty of room if you want me to hatch yours with them. Bator holds ~30 chicken eggs.

will you sell teh showgirl chicks? I would be interested in some. If you only have 1 I would be interested in buying it from you I have more chicks that just hatched a few days ago so there would be plenty to keep it or them warm. I have 5 bantams and 8 buff silkies! Let me know, thanks! I will be at the 2 swaps this weekend and could get them! Sorry for the bad luck, I hate that!

I am looking for a small incubator used or new! Preferably with a turner, like a 42 egger, or so! I have 1 little giant and it works really good, but I would like to have 2, thanks anybody let me know, I will be at swaps to pick up or buy, etc. thanks!

I totally get that I am a little strange, and definitely born and raised a city girl. Trying to convert to a country-ish lifestyle. But there are a few things that I still havent been able to get used to. Bugs, for example. They are just gross and I dont want to touch them nor do I want them to touch me. This morniing I discovered another thing that is going to take me a little while to get used to.

I have been reading people talk about checking their eggs for a bullseye to verify fertility. I had no idea what this meant. I poked around a little on here and found a thread about it with some great pics to illustrate. I felt informed! This morning I cracked open 3 eggs for a beautiful 3 eggs omlet with green peppers and cheese and I noticed that I could actually see the bullseye on all 3 eggs. How very cool! My rooster is doing his job. All is well. I scrambled the eggs, cooked up my omlet, and sat down to eat it....only every time I tried I gagged. All I could think of was the bullseye. ICK!

I guess I need to work on that and quick :)

It looks like I won't be able to make the Augusta tomorrow. I have hatching eggs being delivered. Should I put the eggs right in the incubator or should I let them settle a little while?

you should let them sit for atleast a day so the yolk and stuff can settle the way it needs to be, then put them right in the incubator, if you dont let them settle they can get twisted!

I'm so glad to hear that it's dominate. this bird will definately be for sale but I don't sell itty bitties at the swaps so it will have to be older or the buyer needs to pick up here.
