Maine

oh Anna, i'm so sorry, chickens are not always the smartest.
Well, I think I killed my some of my chickens.

I had several of the younger birds, just a 3-4 months old, die. They were fine one day, slow and kind of sluggish the next, and dead by morning. I could not figure out what was going on!! I have been watching, googling, and generally driving myself mad trying to figure it out. I have been watching them extra hard the last few days and then combining what I see with what I find online...It looks like my younglings dont know what to stay out of!!! GRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!

And on top of that I had to spend almost 3 hours on the phone with the IRS and several banks today. So I am REALLY not in a good mood right now!!!!

But I really do need to say that the folks I spoke with at the IRS were the nicest most helpful people I dealt with all day!

Oh gosh, I will try the Blue Kote and see if it helps. In the mean time I discovered the real aggressor was Betty, the biggest of the Orps. I have isolated her in the dog kennel in the shed. Hopefully it will take her down a few notches!

I have some 1 year old laying hens that I am selling. I would like to get $8 each for them. Unfortunately I cannot get to the Augusta Swap with them. If anyone knows anyone looking for young laying hens (Bard Rocks) please let me know.

Had 25 of these birds and just sold all them to one person, good day for me.

Okay now...are there gay ducks? Have noticed behavior changes in our 12 girls one boy Pekin for a couple of days. They are coming to maturity. They went to the kiddie pool today and one girl was standing on another and was in the mating position, bill on top of head of the third, as the drake stood by and watched. Maybe we have a voyeur drake? He is timid with all the girls, but the girls are getting aggressive with each other sometimes. We are maybe a couple of weeks from eggs. Is this normal? It was kinda funny, but don't want to see anyone get hurt. They have plenty of space, but they're like rambunctious teenagers. Is this just the pecking order or do we have a "nasty girl?"

I don't know about ducks, but we have a hen that mates another hen. I think it is just a way of showing dominance.

We moved our giant hoop coop today. It was a lot of work, but it went relatively smoothly, and the chickens are happy to have a coop full of fresh greens!

how sure are you of the duck's gender? maybe it's really a boy or as bucka said, dominance, dogs do it all the time, male or female

Ok, my answer to this is: absolutely there are gay ducks. I also think they're just "looser" sexually than many other animals.

I had 4 boys and 1 girl duck. Two of the boys were/are gay, both Pekins. And they were in love with the same boy duck (not a pekin). The object of their collective affection did not return the interest, and was harassed almost to death (he wasn't able to get a lot of food, as soon as they saw him they'd start chasing him to mount him). We had to eat the worst offender, but unfortunately the other one stepped up his affections once there was less competition. We'll be eating the other gay duck soon, letting the object of their affection gain some weight and then we'll slaughter him.

Consequently, I've seen some other "rogue" behaviour from the whole duckling flock - lots of group sex and mostly not involving the girl. I have also seen the girl mount the boys. And yes, I'm certain of their sex.
