Waiting for eggs is excruciating! We finally got our first egg this morning from a bantam hen. I originally bought her because she was broody but she decided to start laying again. I am getting an incubator anyway. If she lays again in same nest tomorrow I may leave it for her so we get some chicks. Our rooster is a Wyndotte and she is not a tiny bantam so we might get some decent sized pulletts for future egg laying. We also want the experience of having a hen and chicks running around. Our boys would love it and it is just part of farm life. I have a showgirl silkie on 9 eggs but she will not be running around free ranging.
Now maybe some of the other girls will get to it!! They are all right there at the right age. Any day now!!!

I need help!! My silkie rooster Sammie has had an impacted crop now for a week... I was able to empty it two days ago or so I thought! Does anyone know any vets in central maine who cares for chickens? My vet has done small simple things for me with my other silkies but does not want to touch this! Anyone ever open a crop on their own? Any help would be great! I have him inside alone right now.. And will continue to massage it.... When I do empty it a little he bounce back but today it is hard and full again...

Is it hard and full first thing in the Morning? Or does it go down over night? Check him first thing in the morning before he eats, If its gone down overnight He should be fine. Sometimes the crop can feel pretty full and hard but is not compacted if it goes down over night.

Most vets who will see a bird will see a chicken. There's one in Gorham, Lisbon/Falls, and Springvale that I know of. I think the gal I used to go to in Acton would too but not sure.

Widget do kids gravitate to the washer too? I have a son who is at the I don't want to bathe stage. Bill it as a cool new ride!

I am looking for a new Splash Am roo or a FCBM cockerel.

My new Orloffs come next week and my Houdan eggs are shipping this weekend!!! SO excited.

You might try Annabessacook vet in Monmouth- they see farm animals, so maybe chickens too?
