Maine

I had a first tonight; I went in to feed and close up the cottage when, as I was locking the door from the inside so no one would run out, there was suddenly a chicken on my head! I don't usually wear a hat but am glad I did this time. It was one of Marans girls. She has taken to trying to ride my arm too. It was a surprise for sure and my son just laughed and laughed.

Big exciting news here this weekend! we are moving. literwlly just around the corner but i couldnt be happier.'we have had a rough landlord and neighbor situation here for a while and have tried and tried to improve'it with no luck. we found the perfect little'house for our family around the corneron 10 acres of land complete with pastures, barn, 2 ponds and very large raised bed vegetable garden. Now then fun part- moving a family'of 6 and our 20 or so chickens! thank goodness it is so close!

That sounds really nice. You'll need some waterfowl for sure, now.

LOL, thats what the kids said! A chorus of "we can get ducks now!!!!", and my oldest daughter boucing like a jack rabbit squealing about the possibility (in her mind) of a horse in the future. Right now I am just so excited to be out from our troublesome landlord and neighbor situation we have been dealing with for a long time now. It is going to be so niceto have our own space and our own HOME!

But, next spring I have call ducks and guineas on my list of must haves!

Ash- just the smaller yellow coop is omcing with us. The larger white one we were in isnt really mobile, so it has to stay behind. Which leads me to my next topic...

I have 4 eight week old mixed breed chickies that are looking for a new home. They are completely feathered out, recently wormed (thanks to Ash!) and living with the big guys without incident. They are sweeties and I really like em, but with the move and losing a coop for a while, they really need to go somewhere with the space for them. Also, since I truly STINK at sexing chickens (I have yet to be right until I see one mount another), I cannot tell you what they are. I am in Raymond, easy drive to windham, portland, bridgton and probably elsewhere. Let me know if you are interested.

so why is it not movable?? I moved on a boom truck a smaller aviary i had, it was the same size as my current coop, maybe bigger 8x8x6?? and tall enough for me to stand up and not be able to touch the ceiling. if you are only moving around the corner, ask your local lumber yard, they may move it for a fee. ours was $75 from one side of our yard to the other side.

I am now a certified independent state poultry inspector. Waiting for a new kit but as soon as it is here I can NPIP certify. The state vet wants to change some things - like testers going out to farms to do the testing. So if you want to be be or need redone - I am official!
