I wonder if it started out as the Flu...and then went straight to pneumonia...it's just weird. I've been taking SUCH good care of myself this year too! Darn...I'm going back to eating Pringles...forget the fruits and veggies!
Maybe you're already tried this one, but I found Mucinex (over the counter) and a moist heat humidifier with some Eucalyptus oil (3 drops or so) works well. If you don't have a humidifier you could boil some water and wet the cloth with the eucalyptus and breathe it in while you're watching TV.
You Absolutely need some antibiotics!!
I just got over the same thing a couple weeks ago, and it took a while for the antibiotics to get rid of it too.
It sounds like I am going through. After 1 week of sore throat and extreme mucus, I have been coughing for going on 3 weeks. It is quite a bit better, but the first week of coughing was terrible. I am prone to bronchitis though, so when I get a cough it usually lingers.
#1. Go to the Dr.
#2. If it is a productive cough (phlem) you don't want it to stop. Take an expectorant like mucinex. You want to get rid of all that garbage in your lungs. DO NOT SWALLOW IT! Spit it all out.
You need moist heat, boil water, get a humidifier etc...
#3. If it's a dry cough then you need a cough suppressant like Vicks niquel etc...
#4. DO NOT MIX MEDICATIONS!
#5. Drink more water than you think you need. When you take medications they may numb your senses to your illness but also numb your ability to know thirst. So DRINK UP!
(lay off the sports drinks and novlty drinks..water is best)
#6. Real, home made, chicken soup actually works. (no joke)
#7. One a day multi vitamins--take one in the morning and one after lunch.
#8. >#9. ># 10. ANTIBIOTICS ARE A LAST RESORT FOR BIOLOGICAL PHENUMONIA NOT FOR FLU!!!
FLU is a virus...antibiotics WILL DO NOTHING FOR IT!!!
If you follow the above, in about 5 to 7 days you should feel a little better.
The cough won't go away completely for several weeks though. It takes a long time to get rid of the crud that's building up in your lungs right now. I know that's not what you want to hear but at least you know what to expect.
yeah...I know the whole flu/ antibiotics thing. Flu is virus and cannot be cured with antibiotics. As of now, there are no antibiotics that are targeted at viruses...only bacteria and some fungi.
Anyway...got the diagnosis:
Sinus Infection mixed with Pneumonia. I'm a lucky duck....
They have me on Flonase and Amoxycillin....but...if it works it works...I'm too tired to fight them at this point...it's honestly drained me to the point I hate getting out of bed...and I'm a morning person!
I had pnuemonia about 6 or 7 months ago and it was Horrible. I think I coughed so hard I nearly broke a rib. It was really painful, the coughing. So now when I feel I am getting sick, I increase my water intake and get as much rest as possible. Also, Tons of vit.C. Take a really good probiotic/digestive enzyme to help with keeping the flora in your gut healthy. I know it sounds odd, but it really helps. And SLEEP!!! Get as much rest as you need and can get. Do Not be in a hurry to get up and back to your normal routine. The lungs need time to heal, and if you get back up too soon it will be much harder on your system and you could have a relapse.
Take care, and hope you are feeling better very soon!
How about some gingerale mixed with some pedialyte (non-flavored). Or Gatorade if you cant do gingerale (mix the gatorade with pedialyte also).
Get your electrolytes back up hun, you'll start to feel better soon. Drinking is the most important thing, forget about eating right now. If you can, just sip on some chicken broth and if you're really hungry, try some jello. Just stay with liquids right now, its the best thing for you.
