Making Bumblefoot Worse

So did you decide to treat your sick hen, @scollier??? :fl
Thanks for asking!
We are trying to treat her as best as we can with drawing salve, antibiotic ointment, colloidal silver, and feeding her eggs scrambled with oregano. We hope to see if things get better over the next couple days. If they do not, and they get worse, we may need to cull her. I do not feel confident enough to do another surgery while her foot is so swollen. :(

I am afraid the swelling is not going to go down unless you get the pus out.

You may only need to soak her foot in Epsom salts to soften the scab, remove it, then try squeezing the footpad to express some or all of the pus or keratin—the cheese-like kernal inside. I have had to squeeze pretty hard in some cases. The black toe may eventually fall off, but if there is deeper healthy tissue, it may slough a bit and heal. My horse vet had me do Epsom salts soaks to an open wound, and we do that for prolapses, so I don’t see any reason not to do them.

I’ve been thinking about your hen sooo much and have been worried sick! Please please please keep us posted!
I will keep you posted. Her foot still looks awful, but I just don't even know where to start for surgically removing the infection at this point. I am trying to treat her with what I can and what we already have.
