Making Lemonade [Selective Culling Project - very long term]

The three survivng ducklings hatched by nature - obvious how badly the one was picked on, I had to step in. The other side is even worse, but no infection.

In my climate???
What, you don't want the all black feather legged one!?

I'm kidding, but I haven't seen one of those hatched in a while. Do you know who it came from?
Culling will be an act of sympathy.

I don't have a clue, actually. I could make some guesses, but they wouldn't even be particularly educated ones.

So, current hatch is starting a day early (pretty normal for me). Our first new chicken just joined the world. Mostly black. Pictures later. Busy shuffling birds around, cleaning brooder boxes, and fixing an electrical short outside. NOT how I planned to spend my day.

Up to 5 hatchings so far from the current chicken incubation. Base don colors so far, lots of culls. This was from a batch of hatching eggs I had planned to sell before the buyer ghosted me - they had 12 days of chilled storage prior to being set. If I have a 50% hatch rate, I'll be pleased. As usual, I failed to candle completely at day 7, and failed to follow up at all later in the incubation with a second candling. I've been distracted.

Yes, yes it does. Another hatch overnight, another mostly black bird fated for the table at an early age.

Sorry about the lack of pictures, yesterday was busy repairing the 'fridge.

The Six Chicks hatched thus far, one more has externally pipped, high hopes on two others.
Of the remaining three eggs set, two were seemingly infertile, one was an early quit.

Honestly, these are all looking like culls for the dinner table to me at this moment.
