Making New Dog Breeds

I know a lot of the rescue are bad pricing and terms wise, worse than the shelters around here, anyway. Breed specific rescues, especially shock me at their cost. We have some great rescues here that only charge $60 per animal (inc. fixing, vaccinations, etc.), do adopt to people with children (I asked b/c I know some have issues and she said "No children?! Children NEED animals!"

) and some will adopt for outside pets as well.

All of my cats were rescues and all were adopted for outside. (The feral rescues, they don't charge, they let you donate whatever you can.) My dogs I did adopt, but from individuals.

No what needs to be done is have responsible dog owners(cat owners too) spay and neuter unwanted pets, so that the shelters/pounds/rescues are not overrun with unwanted pets.

Sorry I dont want to sound on the side of the shelters because I got turned down from adopting because I failed to have a 18 year old dog verified dead, when they ran the vet check on me it came up that he had not been seen in 2 years(he is buried in the back yard, and when he stopped breathing I saw no point in taking him to the vet to spend money for a vet to tell me my dog was dead. The funny thing is that the other dog had been seen regularly and was up to date, but the shelter wouldnt take my word for it. I too was then able to BUY a purebreed from a breeder, and saved money compared to the adoption fee, and not take on a year old that who knows what kind of past it had.

I wonder if the OP just meant how to get the mixed breed recognized as a sellable breed, like my Pomapoo or a Labradoodle.

There are books in the pet stores now with the mixed breeds names on the front of them.

I am not sure who is in charge of something like that. Or if its just a supply/demand thing.

I think it is a supply and demand thing, if no one was willing to pay $$$ for designer dogs then there would not be a ready supply of them.

I have some designer chickens if anyone is interested

I don't like rescue groups or shelters much. They act like you are not to have a life outside of the animal you are adopting. My issue with a lot of these so called rescue groups is there way of going about placing a pet.

They want to do a home visit, and if you don't agree to that, you can't adopt a pet. Excuse me? My HOME is my private domain and a not even a government official has the right to inspect my home without a warrant.

They go directly to the puppy mills and buy as many dogs as they can to "rescue" them. I'm sorry, but that didn't rescue anyone! Sure, you saved THAT dog, but that miller still got $ for that dog, so you just sentenced yet another dog that in 1-3 years you will once again be purchasing to rescue. IMO those puppy mill rescuerers are keeping the cycle going by paying for those dogs. Find a way to get them for FREE. DO NOT PAY THE MILLERS. And then don't preach to us out of the other side of your mouth to not buy pet store puppies. I don't care if you are a rescue, you are BUYING them from the auctions! You went direct to the source. And those pet store puppies deserve a chance at a real life and real home too!

I would never be approved to adopt from a rescue for a dog or cat because we only use a vet for emergencies. Why should I shell out $50 to a vet for shots when I can vaccinate BOTH my dogs MYSELF for less than $25 and that is their booster AND Their rabies? The money I save vaccinating them myself goes to food, toys, sewing supplies to make their bedding, etc.

I went on Wednesday to see this 5-6 year old German Shorthair they have at the pound. Such a pretty, calm dog. My psycho GSP needs a play partner. Anyway, I was ready to take him home (to our 160 acre farm) and then they said...um... do you live alone? No. Where is your family? (at the farm doing chores?!?!) I'll give you the paperwork, and you can bring it back when you can all come in.... My jaw dropped. I was like, wait! I am taking this 5-6 year old HUGE dog off your hands and you're saying NO???
I took the paperwork, but I doubt I will go back. I could buy a purebred puppy for what they want me to pay. I even told her to call the local vet (they know me well) but she said until the whole fam came in, she couldn't do anything.

How will they rehome these pups with this kind of stuff??

I'm def. dealing with different rescues than you are, quail. The ones around here take in animals that are abandoned by other people or rescue from the high kill (gas 2-3 x a week) shelter in town. Most of the ones here do not require a home visit (the breed rescue ones do). The no kill shelters and the humane society do not. And it's good I never had to bring in all of my family or I never would have gotten in with DH along! ROFL
