Making New Dog Breeds

I got my dog at the ASPCA locally. She only had a couple days left so I think it was fate I went in that day. She picked me, I filled out the form and went back later that day and picked her up. It was $75 but they did give her a microchip that would have cost me $60 easy at the vet. My only problem with them is their conditions. Cold and damp. They had treated her to get rid of the fleas she came in with but didnt bath her to get rid of them and the dirt, the couple days after I got her I spent $100 at the vet to discover she had bronchitis. The vet said its pretty common to get sick dogs from the spca. There is a local no kill foster program but they want upwards of $150 for a dog, thats a little steep. Those type of programs are more picky. I filled out an app for a basset with one of those and they never even called me back, guess Im not rich enough.

On a side note, my neighbor had an "accident" with his dogs a little while ago and I can tell you a mini schnauzer/beagle cross is uugggggly

Everyone should spay/neuter their dogs and cats...unless they have a registered breeders liscense.

All shelters and rescues are not the same and do not have the same policies. If you don't like the policies at one, try another.

Dogs and cats are not disposable.

Be a responsible owner

This is truly one of my few pet peeves.
I have raised and shown and breed English Bulls for over 30 years and have many Champions bred by over the years(Now Retired from ring)
The reason the Designer dogs took off and soooo many people fell for it is because AKC finally cracked down on breeders only allowed to have so many litters a year , if you would go over the limit American Kennel Club could keep you from reg. anymore unless you let them into your kennel to see your breeders and check out you out.Make sure yoour paper work is up to Par and many other important factors.

Now the backyard breeders making a living out of selling purebred dogs had to figure out a way to live off of selling AKC puppy mills FIGURED it out breed mutts and call them designer breeds, AKC can't touch them and the general public fell for it!

Pretty much everywhere has low cost spay / neuter certificates usually between $30 - $60
I went to the humane society on euthanasia day it was the sickest thing I had ever seen in my life about 60 dogs and cats about 40 of which were under 5 months old put down by a heart stick. My "job" was to follow behind to find ones that were still alive and call the vet back to finnish the job. I didn't go back.
Back at my normal clinic the next day we had a 18 year old girl come in with her new $1,200 PomChi (Pomeranian ans chihuahua) the dog was from a pet store and looked so frail and already had patella issues. When we asked about spaying the dog she said "Not until she has at least ONE litter of puppies!!! You know for the experience!!!"
I have no problem with responsible breeders but we get at least 1 of those ding bats in every week (along with a bunch of emergency c-sections and people calling the day the dog is in labor asking what they should do.....did you do any research when you decided to breed?!?!?")

The shelter thing is a known issue that a lot of places are trying to change now. Some are still very lenient but most are just ridiculous in their expectations.

"You didn't bring the WHOLE family well you will just have to come back then"
"Darn I was hoping to hide the fact that my son is a geeked out animal killer, good job humane society for catching that one!"

(I would have had no problem with the questions on that application, though. I probably wouldn't have been approved, though since my feral cat rescues that I got were outside (as the organization said they needed to be) and one took off (as he warned me was possible and just "come back to get another").
