Making the most of it.

We've got three sections of lawn, about 1/4 acre of grass total. The big section has big trees, roots, old stumps the PO never dug out, and sprinklers that stick up randomly. Not riding mower friendly. The back yard and the courtyard are small and chopped up, too.

Push mower it is, but we have an older Toro 2cycle that works like a champ.
I'd been mowing one of my customers' place one day, & got rained out; I wouldn't mow wet grass...makes too much mess. I loaded up & headed home. Passed a guy standing in the rain, wearing a raincoat, watering his lawn!

I don't mind the hills. Which is probably a good thing because I've got about 4 of them that I have to cut. Never had it tip over on me but have been up on two wheels and bucked off it a couple times.

Now see, actual hills I can deal with, because you can mow the up/down -- my issue with our yard is on the pond side out front -- there is a considerable "bank" built up that slopes down steeply into the neighbor's yard from where they built things up digging the pond and then both sides of the driveway have a decent sloping angle so that as you mow along them you feel off center. I'm a nervous nelly about all three of those areas because you have to mow along them vs up/down.

Have you tried shifting your weight to the "high side" as much as possible w/o sacrificing control?

Up/down takes to long for me so I try to do as much as possible going sideways and leaning :D

Yep, 'specially if you don't have a wide-track machine like mine.

Yes, that is what I do. I know I am being unreasonable in my fear because I watch DH mow the exact same areas and can see that the mower remains stable, etc -- but when I am actually *on* the mower logic goes out the window and it feels way steeper than I know in my head that it is.
