What size identification bands do you use for serama chicks and serama adults? Any suggestions on where to buy them? Thanks for the help.

I use wing bands because you can use them at a very young age and you never have to worry about them becoming too small on their legs like with the traditional leg bands. you can get them from most poultry supply catalogs

There are size 3 rubber leg bands on ebay. They are fine for day old chicks up to aobout 3-4 weeks, when bigger band will work.

I need to look into wing bands though! I'm not familiar. Where do they clip on? At the top of the wing at the shoulder?

I know some put a bit of food coloring on chicks, but it seems I have all black/ blue/ chocolatey chicks and the color just doesn't show up.

Thanks! I just bought the size 3 bands on ebay and I will look into the wing bands.

I use a magic marker (different colors) on chicks until they are old enough to wing band. they attach with special pliers close to the body in the small web of skin at the top of the wing

Just for fun I harness trained my Serama roo. He actually walks with me, but not as good as a dog.

Well, I was hoping for a rooster from the Serama hatches (I've only been able to hatch girls!) and it looks like I got one

Actually, I have 3 but I thought I'd show off Zephyr since I've been showing him off since he hatched a month ago.

The other two are younger but combs are already turning. They are from Seramaland's stock through another breeder so I'm hoping for some good quality birds. Zephyr is from pamperedpoultry...love her Seramas

Lol this is what we want to do with Zephyr! I trained my RIR to do this. He isn't too impressed with it, he'd rather just walk beside me - which he does pretty well - but I feel safer with the harness on when we are out on the street. Yep, it gets me lots of crazy looks

You have to be careful about the placement of the bands on growing chicks. If it isn't all the way on the web, then it can become ingrown and cause a lot of problems. Not a lot, but I have seen what happens in the rare cases when wing bands are applied wrong. It is best to apply them to adult birds that have stopped growing.

I just use the plastic bandetts. They come in lots of bright colors and have number from 1-100. They make them anywhere from chick to turkey size and they are fairly cheap if you buy them in bulk. They are also durable, they last a long time and are reusable. I use a size 7 for my larger bantams, and a size 5 or 3 fro my seramas and younger chicks.

Try walking with a line of ducklings behind you and see what looks you get. I had 12 following me at once around the block. 5 were goslings and the rest were ducks.
