Japanese bantams should have yellow legs.

After your post, I did some looking at the japanese and OEGB and I see now the difference. OEGB have longer legs and the wings are short/compact. Japanese have short legs and long wings like a serama.

Hmm, I'll have to check that one out! My OEGB have (imo) very stubby legs and fat little bodies!! But true, their wings don't seem to hang low like the Seramas I've seen pictures of. However, I'm a total novice at this, I'm still learning...Thank you for posting your observations. It will help make my eye more discerning!!

Mrs. Fluffy Puffy :

The Twins ~ One has more Silver feathers and one has more Buffish colored feathers. It hard to tell...but their is a tad bit of differents in the feather colors.

I still haven't named one of these sweeties...I just can't think of the right name for'em.

Cute chicks, but there is no such color as 'buff mille fluer mottled'. Mille fluer IS mottled buff columbian, so it's either mille fluer OR mottled, since mille fluer is a mottled color...make sense?

Besides, very few serama colors are set to a standard, that chick will probably end up looking like the one I posted a while back. He was yellow as a chick and started feathering out similar to a wheaten but with stripes on his back. Now he is mottled, but he's also red and a couple other colors I think. They are so mixed up and it's hard to straighten the colors out when several people like them the way they are.

Not all japanese have the super-short legs, only the 'good quality' ones do. But most of them do hold their tails very upright, a trait that I've never seen an OEGB have. Which is one reason that some people think that serama have been out-crossed to japanese, because of their upright tails. Always look at leg colors, that's usually a good indicator of breed. Several breeds have similar appearances but the leg colors are different

Like with the serama and OEGB...one good thing is that the serama people are working on getting all varieties to have yellow legs...a trait that an OEGB NEVER has. OEGB have either slate or pink/white legs, never yellow.

Here's a pic of 'good' japanese. They are standing (though you can't see their legs) and have upright tails:

And here's a pic of japanese that have not-so-short legs, but still not super long legs either. They can have super long legs like OEGB, it just depends on their genes.

Thanks for the education tonight. I learn something new everyday on BYC. I think my new little girl does not have designer "jeans" for sure.

Pink legs + duckwing look = OEGB.
