The only reason that I can think of that one would need to AI a Serama is if the male is uninterested in the female and won't breed. When people say that the smaller birds have fertility problems, they don't mean that one bird has trouble reaching the other; they mean that the innards of a small bird are too compact to produce well. You're right about using a smaller male to a bigger female, but she doesn't have to be giant. Anything in the large A to medium B is usually a decent choice. Now, if that medium sized female is also extremely typey, her short back will reduce her inside capacity as well. Don't expect a lot of eggs from those girls, but treat each one as if they were made of gold!

I'll take some pictures tomorrow but I think a couple of the chicks I hatched from eggs I got when I picked up Truffles and Bugsy might be frizzled. They're just getting enough feathers in to make me wonder. The tail feathers look a bit twisted or something and the shoulder feathers are more, well fluffy or something. The first feathers in were the wing tips and they aren't really unusual looking. I should have paid more attention to the frizzled chick photos. Would someone with frizzled chick pics like to share them again? I'd like to see some that are just beginning to feather out. I'll take some of mine tomorrow.

The pictures are a little dark but I just now snapped them, the chick sitting on my desk with a light over it.
What do you think? I went to Juliette's website and I'm really thinking they may be frizzled. I don't recall seeing any frizzled when I was there though. The tail feathers are curly, the feathers coming in on the shoulders are sort of curled but just a few feathers but the wing tip feathers aren't curly.
