Uh-Oh, one of "those", huh? Why is it the very best typey girls are usually not the best performers?!?

I still say she is gorgeous though, definitely a show stopper!

Okay, this is a WEIRD question..... but I know there are plenty of BYC'ers that keep their Seramas indoors, so I'll ask...

My Serama girl is close to laying age, she's doing the egg squat, and has gotten her "big girl" voice, and her comb and wattles have gotten red... She's gotten moody, all tell tale signs of hormones..

My question... She stays indoors with me, in a parrot cage when she's not free ranging the house. I want to make a little nest box for her, but I DON'T want to use shavings or straw for the nesting material. I'm sick of shavings all over the house. Can I use shreds of fabric for her nest? Its not like the nest gets poopy, but can you think of any reason why shredded fabric would be a bad idea? Is there another nesting material that isn't messy that I should consider?

Hi sunny, what about shredded paper towels or napkins?? VIVA paper towels are SO nice and soft. W/ fabric you might get threads roaming around?? I sew alot and I get them everywhere.

Humm, try the Spanish Moss. You can buy it at Walmart of the dollar store, I thin it's used for art projects. I had a pair of button quail in my room for awhile, and I was like you, sick of shavings all over my floor. This stuff worked alot better.

This sounds like a great alternative, I might give this a try myself!!! As far as shredded fabric, I'd be afraid she'd eat the threads and wind up with an impacted crop.

Okay, I lost a post somewhere... THANK YOU for the nest box suggestions. I knew I'd get some great advice from you all! Both the paper towels, and the moss sound like much better ideas...

Here are some pics of the cockerel and pullet that were graciously donated by Grady Taylor and will be sold at a silent auction at the So Cal Serama Classic this next Saturday, June 4th. Contact myself or Cara for information.
