I have 1 young pullet with greenish legs and was wondering if I should keep her out of my breeding program because of the leg color. Will she pass this on to all of her offspring?

It is inheritable, but Mr. Mongold says that it is pretty recessive. I haven't gotten a green-legged chick with yellow x green breeding, but I have limited hatching experience. Being recessive, I suppose it could pop up anywhere, but I need to hear from people who have been breeding longer.

I too am interested in what to do about green leg colors, I have been getting alot lately and neither of my roos have green legs nor do the hens! One roo has yellow legs with a bit of swarthy and the other has flesh colored legs. One hen has brown legs but she is a jet black bird. My smallest hen who isn't even fertile has blue legs! The rest have either flesh tone or yellow. I have been wondering about this for some time...

So have you been keeping track of your breeding results? I am thinking of making a database including leg color, mottling, down color, etc. I even break open unhatched eggs to check leg color in the dead chicks! We'll need good records to figure out how to get rid of it. So far, I haven't gotten anything but yellow from yellow x yellow, but this is just from a half dozen specific birds, and I can't make any conclusions from that. Is it a specific pair that make your green legs, or just willy nilly? I suspect that there is a handful of genes that create leg color, and you could not only have a green leg gene, you could also have a blue and a yellow gene that are incompletely dominant, and together they make green!

I have been keeping track. The tiny micro hen was a result of a hen with yellow legs and a roo with flesh tone legs. I haven't a clue as to how I got blue legs out of that. It was a first for me. As for the green legs I believe that comes from my male who has yellow/swarthy and my black hen with dark brown legs. I have 5 batches of babies running around with mostly yellow legs this time around altho 2 babies are chocolate with the darker legs or swarthy so to speak.

What will they do at a show if your bird has greenish legs?? Is it a dq??
