I didn't know that they are getting into the color 'thing' so harsh?? I DO think they have to have a 'color standard' to get them into the APA or ABA (I think thats the correct lettering) don't they? I love all the different colors and patterns and like to play with the color genetics of all our birds, but the Serama's colors (from what I understand) are still so genetically mixed up that it's still hard to come up with a 'single' color or pattern. They have gotten the white and black solids but further than that I'm not sure of any others. I DO tho' want to see a lavender!!
These birds are so much fun and so full of personality, that I cannot see where one would be 'bad' color. Maybe bad typey but not color UNLESS someone is going for a certain genetic color trait and one is not of that requested set. That doesn't mean that it's a cull or bad bird, just not what floats their proverbial color boat!!
One man's junk is another man's treasure!! There are some 'cull's' out there that I would dearly LOVE to have just because of their lines and what the owners are working on within the lines!! (cuts a look at Bluegrass
)
This is true we are working on getting our colors down pat and trying to vear away from the Serama color/patterns for the time being! But we arent just throwing them out as we will continue our Table top judging just like we have where these off colors/patterns can take champion/res. of show(table top). To be honest the reason that we are focusing on our main ABA\\APA colors is because we know that these two clubs arent going to accept every color we put infront of them, and the already accepted colors is our best bet to get in! And really our whites and black arent even breeding 100% true yet, no ones is!
The whites will sometimes throw some with DUN lacing or speckling in them and the Blacks are having silver, gold, and red hackles and saddle feathers out the wazue! All that we are trying to do is get this breed in the standard after that were clear, we dont have to focus as much on these colors as we did to get them perfected! we will be working on type and that comes with time!
But all in all we arent trying to get rid of the colors just trying to focus on our whites and blacks and getting them in the standard, while pushing the colors aside FOR NOW!
You said that SO much better!!! lol
I knew someone with more knowledge would come on here and explain it for me, thank you!!
