Too far...

There is no such thing as too far. When weather is right I have no problems shipping birds to just about anywhere in the US.

The 'B' class is the preferred size. APA and ABA stipulate 20% over or under on weight is acceptable, which is where the 'A's and 'C's come in. But 'B' is the size they are 'supposed' to be.

I would at least have some kind of fence. They are so small that cats could kill and eat them pretty easily. You'll also want to make sure they are trained to go inside to roost so you don't find them on trees and such

So basically everyone that has these lil guys keeps them mostly in an enclosed runs and coops? Just for safety measure? I would be nervous of them trying to roost in trees and me not getting them in! Easy target for an owl ! yikes hmmmmm

I believe most people keep them in cages inside a building.

I got a pullet from Mandy that has been shown and she sits quietly on top of the cage while I clean it out. And the young pair about five weeks old when received were so tame that they BEG to be held and petted. You can certainly tell when birds have been handled by previous owners! They are great!

Many people consider them pets and many are kept in the house in large cages, especially in the winter time.

I have this little frizzle here that I think may turn out to be some kind of porcelain color. I don't breed for color and the variety is what I love about this breed but I thought I would share it anyhow

This is how I keep mine. One stays in year round, she lives with the Silkie hen that hatched her last year. The other two like to be out during the nice months but are happy for their garage cage right now. My new ones will all be indoor. My husband - bless his heart - has agreed to build a room for all my house chickens in our large portion of our downstairs unused playroom/family room. Just a few days ago he was mad at me for buying an incubator

I want to keep this topic current as no one is talking about it at all. Please remember: Serama chickens cannot take the extreme cold like full size chickens can. They have to come inside and have a source of heat--please. Now Chicken addict is doing right by her birdies, keeping them warm.

I'm lovin seeing everyones Serama's, what sweethearts! I have a week old chick and 3 that hatched today. They're a rambunctious group and already keeping the week old chick hopping. I have a dozen or so in the incubator so I'm hoping for a bunch more to hatch.
Anyone have an extra rooster with a little longer leg? Some of mine are pretty short legged and I'd like to add some length. Mine aren't all that short legged but I'm working on getting more leg on mine. You can PM me. B and C size is fine.

Cathy
