Im picky if they seem like they are buying them for novelty, or Im worried about the bird's welfare. Mostly people that buy from me are chicken enthusiasts, and I have the best customers ever.
I love getting updates and staying in touch with everyone and see how their line of birds are coming along. Its really neat now to see how fast the frizzled birds got around!
What I really try to do is give specifics about Serama care ....and also Serama type. I also try to educate the buyer if I can about what makes Serama different and special, and how to understand the difference between a Serama and another small chicken. I hope this will save them trouble in the future while they are buying birds to increase thier flock. I sometimes suggest other breeders if I know what the buyer is looking for, or what area they are in. I tell them to come here to BYC, and go to the SCNA site and become a member and learn all they can, and look at birds from top breeders and show winners to develop an "eye" for type. I try to teach them about type, care, and I try to be available to answer any questions that might pop up later.
I think that most people that contact me have some idea what a serama is, but I too, am wary about selling to people who dont know what they are. When I sell cull birds that dont make the cut, I sell them as tiny cute bantam pet chickens, and do not mention the word Serama, I dont sell culls like that to people who are looking for Serama to breed. If I wouldnt breed it, I dont want people saying--"OH I have one of those Sir Yama things! Want some chicks?"
