~MALAYSIAN SERAMA THREAD~ (PICS!!!)

All this chocolate talk,, and I'm not sure if I'm drooling over the chickens themselves, or the chocolate they represent!!

I don't know what it is about Seramas, but I just LOVE them. My little pullet (Hedwig) is just the most personable chicken I've ever met....and my new ones, Gordon, and Venus (his favorite girlie) are just getting more tame by the day. I handle them for a short period, but try not to stress them out.

Not sure how to keep 3 indoor chickens... I should probably put them out, but I"m so conflicted!! Gordon (White with black splash) LOVES Venus, she's black with white spots, but pink legs. She's too young to lay, and quite small, and so is he. Hedwig, my beauty (but willow legged, white with black lacing) might produce great offspring with Gordon, as I've been told here that even though she has willow legs, she might have great yellow legged offspring. She's a great color to try with Gordon, as they are both B & W 's??? Dunno... My biggest concern is ruining their great personalities.... I'd rather have great pets and no offspring, then great offspring with indifferent pets.

However...

I have heard.... that there is a Serama meeting in Escondido, where I'm located, coming up soon....... I need to start spoiling the DH big time, so I can go....!!!

He said I can have ONE new chick for Mothers' Day.... in lieu of an incubator (which would probably get me in too much trouble). So many choices......It may have been the beer talking,..... He was pretty mad at me for bringing home two chicks last weekend.... Cochin, and Golden Phoenix..... hey, it was BOGO!!! How could I resist??

There is a fun day this weekend in Norco and sounds like there will be a lot of us going. I'm bring serama, don't think anyone else is. Lots of other breeds will be available. I have a few pet quality but mostly breeding qualitly birds if you're interested.

Thanks Juliette and Liz! Ive only got three more "days" of school left!

Liz are you good at math? That is where Im having the most trouble. I'm an English and Science nut, even good at Logic and History
but MATH is KILLING ME. I only have two classes to pass to graduate, and I've had to drop the first one twice already and re-take it.
Im never going to get out of school! And..by the way, Coco Crispies is the best name ever! Is Jerry still on here to see that? lol

Juliette, your project is fascinating!!! I love neat colors and cant wait to get on here and see more! I think I have a blue bird here now.... dont know what to breed her to though.
Ill have to get pics and see what you guys think. Give me another week or so, and Ill be back!

Someone send a prayer for me next Thursday for Finals.

It would be appreciated!

I'd call them partridge. I've seen lots of partridge Silkies at shows, and they come in all sorts of shades and distributions. I'm sure there's one "perfect" type of partridge, and they are judged accordingly, but I really don't know what they're suppossed to look like.

In the back of my mind, I am interested in refining certain colors.....but first and foremost I am breeding for type and quality.

I LOVE math! True story: My little brother was a horrible student, but he "knows" stuff, right? He and my dad were fixing up my living room, and Mark needed to know if a corner was square. My dad was being obstinant, and he tried handing him a level instead of a square. Dad insisted that a level could do the same job, and he refused to walk four steps to go get the square for my brother. Mark sighed, and without leaving the ladder, pulled out his tape measure, and put the end on the corner in question. He measured out three feet in one direction and made a mark, four feet in the other direction and made a mark, then measured between the marks. Five feet= the corner is square. He did the Pythagorean thereum in my house! I cried. True story.

Anyway, back to Serama talk. I know that I said that I believe Green legs are sex-link recessive. I may be able to add evidence. I have a buff male of unknown motherage. Because of his amiable character, I suspect his mother is Nelly, my SDW green legged hen who throws friendly chicks. He himself has yellow legs. His wife, a buff silkied from another breeder, has yellow legs. Of the two chicks I've hatched from them, one is buff+chocolate=pullet, as he carries chocolate. The other is buff with a lot of black, with green legs. If green legs is sex linked recessive, i can assume that this chick is female as well, right? If it's a male, green legs should be autosomal recessive, yes?
