He is a mallard male about over a year almost 2. She is an Anacona, adult but not quite a year. I have 7 females and one male. They all get time to run free so not penned up and board. Over the weekend, the male has singled out one female to attack and chase off. Other females are fine with him and when I separate him, the attacked female goes back to the group and is fine. Problem is the male. What the heck?

Drakes are like that. Do separate the drake not the poor picked on female.
Figured as much. He is separated where he can see/socialize but not harass. All girls are doing better. Just what the heck? Over night change and he is not even in breeding plumage.

Honestly, when I noticed her isolating and looking raggedy I freaked out cuz sick duck. But no, just the male being a male. Assuming cuz he can get away with that shit with her on top of her not being willing to submit. He has like FIVE willing females that keep doing that "My body is READY!" pose but does he give them the time of day? Noooo.
