Okay.Huh. I'm pretty stumped, trying to think of what might have done it. I've never seen anyone do more than a peck to her head, let alone something leaving any type of damage
That's what her mother looks like (and the father is the male version of that coloring)I’m not that great at breeds or sexing, but this golden phoenix hen looks similar:

The tail is the same length as my better quality females, not as long as her brother. I'll get a picture today, I didn't get an alert about more posts yesterday for some reasonI'm going with female.

My crate is currently being taken by a broody and I only have small cat carriers for transport. I might try the food coloring though and see if I end up with any purple eggsCan you post a full body photo of the side profile? Hens and roosters have different postures.
If you don't know if this creature is laying eggs, why don't you confine "it" to a crate for a couple days and see if an egg appears. If an egg is produced, that would be hard evidence that no one can dispute.
