Male or female?? No eggs.....

Maybe if I'd had these guys since hatch, because my 7 week old chickens are much friendlier than these geese.... I got them when they were about 5-6 months old and they hadn't been handled. If they are that smart why haven't they yet figured out that I'm not gonna hurt them? lol

The way I sexed them was just the male was very much bigger and very much for in leadership and the goose was appearing to be under him in the order of who is boss!

Maybe they sense that you are contemplating eating them.

I only started contemplating that about 2 weeks ago... before that I hadn't... so I've had them a year and they still hiss and walk away.

I appreciate your nonreactivity.

Could be!! I did originally tell hubby that if it were a bunch of males, they were dinner!

You can usually tell the sex by the way they act. Males are normally more aggressive/outgoing, females are usually shy. The males will often stretch their necks out to you when the females won't. The males are also usually more noisy, my female almost never makes any noise, when the males are constantly screaming/honking at me.

As for the size of their knobs, considering that they are mixed, you probably can't go by that. But for what it's worth, the two that have knobs have them about the size that a female's knob would be

Too many bleeding hearts on here, just ignore them. These animals are not just pets, they are livestock. I'm sure many who complain about processing a goose for the table open a pack of steaks or pork chops on a regular basis. Nothing at all wrong with wanting to know where your food is coming from

ETA: It is not uncommon for some of the bigger goose breeds to wait till they are closer to 2 years old before laying, so it could just be that you have some waiters

Many geese lay in their first year, but they don't have to

Thank Shelly, hubby and I have decided to winter over, just in case. I was HOPING not only for eggs, but to raise a few more for food too... so yeah, the plan was dinner fare...lol

So, my big one does yak yak a LOT and stretches out 'his' neck, but the other two talk up a storm also, but do not stretch at me... is it possible he's a dominant male and the other two submissive males??

Also, when I am in the pen, the big one is ALWAYS on the side that I am on, whereas the other two are general behind him...
