I have been under the impression that my 2 ducks are mallards since the day I got them (May 2018.) I got them from Rural King and they were announced as mallards.

I never even looked up the difference between Rouen and mallard as I always assumed they were mallards. They are small, light, and they can fly. Sounds like a mallard, right? Here’s what threw me off. Everyone says Rouens have 2 facial stripes where as mallards only have one. They clearly had 2 stripes as babies. I’ve also heard it is illegal to sell mallards in Ohio. Does this mean they are actually Rouens?

Those are Mallard ducks. Rouens are actually quite bigger than mallards. Regarding the law: I am under the impression that you may own domestic mallards and you only need a permit for wild mallards. You might also have to mark a mallard where you live.

Edit: typed wrong name the first time. Mallards, not Rouen. Posted pic so you can see difference.

If they are domestic Mallards they should have their prop toe docked on one of their legs to be legal. But not sure if it applies to your state....might want to look into it.
