Malposition 2

So we are going on hour 18 since chick pipped wrong end. I opened up a bit more around hole and wetted the membranes with bacitracin and coconut oil where they were dry. the beak is out and head is between at least one leg down on small end. I eventually opened up area around air sac after reading and re reading the sally sunshine article and anything else I could find. The yolk is fully in the aircell end and was very very dry so I wetted that area too and there are some active veins across that end. I guess my question is can the yolk still absorb if it was kinda dry? It looks alot like what a cooked egg yolk would look like with blood veins and a membrane stretched across it? chick is doing well it seems. swallowing and opening and closing beak and just waiting. I'm just keeping it moist in my Incuview. The fan seems to dry things out fast no matter how high the humidity is. I have the eggs kinda partitioned off to hopefully keep most of the active blowing at bay. Humidity is 76- 80 % with a calibrated hygrometer.

So, in your case I actually wouldn't have opened the egg up. That's allowing things to dry out faster now. That's just information for the future in case this kind of thing happens again

Now that you have opened it, you're going to want to keep reapplying the coconut oil since it's important that things aren't allowed to dry out.

Because this little one didn't get to internally pip, it still may have a lot of absorbing to do. Don't start to worry that it's not progressing until it's been 30 to 48 hours from the external pip. The good news is most of the time they can hatch themselves in this position. However, now that the back end of the egg has been opened, when the chick is ready to start zipping, it might not have anything it can brace itself against to push and turn, so it may well need help at that stage.

For now, just keep monitoring the absorption. When it's ready to hatch, it will start to really struggle, make banging motions with its beak like it's trying to knock pieces of shell off, etc.

Waited till veins receded and they moved about like they were ready. Looking so cute. The malposition 2 chick is having some trouble w her feet/legs. Maybe natural given the position? Kinda looks splayed and toes curled but might be improving.
