malpositioned duck, external pip away from air cell(membrane not broken) When to assist

2 of the 4 have hatched already. The one I was concerned about I can see the blood vessels receding. It’s still cheering some so I don’t want to intervene further. But these 2 that have hatched keep climbing all over it.

Pics are of siblings that hatched around 4 am and 6ish am
Aww they're gorgeous!
I would keep a close eye and make sure they don't knock the mapositioned one about too much, easier said than done, I know!
When my first hatched, she knocked her sister's egg about like a freaking football 🤦‍♀️
Thankfully it was simpler for me as her sister hadn't pipped and I could take the first out to prevent her flying about the incubator.
Congrats on your hatches so far 😊

View attachment 3015324View attachment 3015328I have read that malpositioned pips can look like bruising on the outside of the shell. Is that what this is? I'm on day 29 of hatching call ducks. They are all moving and the eggs are rocking, but no external pips yet. I just noticed this egg.
Day 29 for Call ducks is way late. They should hatch closer to day 26. Did you candle this egg to be sure it is still alive?

I’m wondering if I should go ahead and move the 2 hatched to the brooder so protect this one but they’re not fully dry/fluffed up yet. I’m going to be heading out to church and will be gone for several hours 😬

how long have they been in there? As long as the brooder is ready and warm, you could go ahead and move them as long as youre quick

yes, this one was alive yesterday. I candled today and didn't see movement. I'm going to water candle and if I see anything, I'm going to intervene. All my babies are late, but still progressing, albeit slowly.

My duck was sitting on theses eggs for a day or two and then we went through a cold snap and she stopped. They had been cold for a long time and I didn't think they would even develop, but I stuck them in the incubator and they did! I was sure that they had frozen?!

Anyway, I'm wondering if that has anything to do with the slow development.

Ah, I water candled and no movement. I decided to open it up, just to be 100% positive and sure enough, little baby had been trying to break through there. 💔

At least I know what to look out for now. Sorry if I'm hijacking your thread, OP.

I did go ahead and move them as I was afraid they’d do too much damage-they’re savage. I used a heat pad and towel and quickly took them to the preheated brooder (I started the plate 2 days ago) since they were mostly dry, but I definitely didn’t want to take them out so early.

No worries about hijacking. Im sorry about your loss

The Malpositioned duckie isn’t out of the woods yet. Upon further inspection not only was it facing away from the air cell but it also had its head trapped under a foot. I peeled away a bunch of shell and it freed itself mostly. I wanted it to kick the rest of the shell off itself. It looked (I didn’t inspect thoroughly) that it had some yolk sac still, so it is currently propped in a cup kind of tucked in the bottom of its shell. I am keeping an eye on it. It seems to be breathing but very very lethargic. Like I said before it’ll be a miracle if this one makes it.

Our 3rd egg hatches this afternoon with my husband, both kiddos, and me watching. So cool. It is an egg that I saw veins disappearing halfway through incubation but it somehow hung on. It has a bald spot on the back of its head and neck so keeping an eye on that one as well.
