Look who finally made it!!! It’s the darker of the 2 in the incubator. It’s been a long process but seems to be active and happy now.

I am a first timer and I have wondered the same thing that you did. I think I will just leave mine be and see who hatches. I am so scared to touch anything and kill it myself.Yes, it was the 2nd one to externally pip so probably about 22 hours now. There is at least 1 peeping inside it’s egg but hard to tell which one as I am trying hard to not open the incubator. I figure they’re all still absorbing. The 1st to pip has been very vocal but hasn’t zipped yet (I know that can take a long time). I’m guessing since it didn’t pierce the air cell it wouldn’t be peeping though. I’m trying to be hands off but after reading the post about Malpositioned it made me wonder if I needed to be more concerned about intervening.damned if you do damned if you don’t I guess. I will sit patiently on my hands. (1st time hatching. I set 6 in hopes that 2-3 would succeed, so the fact I have 4 this far is amazing to me)
In my case I did end up assisting and I know without a doubt that one would not have made it if I hadn’t. But yes it is hard to know when to assist or not. I trusted my gut and it was the right thing (though I could have waited a little longerI am a first timer and I have wondered the same thing that you did. Mine are pipping now and I am so excited. It is so hard to know what to do and when since we are so new to this.
They are so pretty! That is awesome. I just decided not to since they are all in the air cell and have either pipped or are working on it. No sense in putting an airhole. I think all 11 will hatch, or at least attempt to. If I have to, I have my little kit all set up. I'm praying I don't have to help at all.In my case I did end up assisting and I know without a doubt that one would not have made it if I hadn’t. But yes it is hard to know when to assist or not. )
The one I assisted is the one closest in the pic with the black all the way around the eye.
Good luck with your hatch! It is exciting and hard to wait and they do take a LONG time
ETA:yes I know the pool is gross, they mess it so fast, even a pic from hours after a water change is![]()
Oh yes! My tiny humans are almost 7 & 9…I know. They are so pretty! That is awesome. I just decided not to since they are all in the air cell and have either pipped or are working on it. As far as the pool, they are birds. If you have kids, you know how messy humans are. haha.
My FIL tried to tell me something about temperature and sex of the baby. But from everything I’ve read there’s nothing concrete/true about it (ie if there were then hatcheries would be on it and not end up with so many males)I also had eggs that were abandoned during the cold and they were all cold when I tried to incubate them with a home made incubator. The ones that I did all turned out to be boys. I have read somewhere that if the eggs get cold the ducklings will mostly be boys and it has always happened in any I have hatched out. I wonder if that is really true and what others with eggs that have gotten cold have found? You Ducks are beautiful by the way. I am glad that things worked out well for you.
