Mama chicken eating baby that just hatched

I just picked her up with the pole from a rake due to a poppong noise and bad smell. One egg right in the middle is smashed and stinks, I see 2 pipped and they are making some noise. I can't get the bad egg out, she not so pleasant about me being in there.

Think things are good, fingers crossed (had to leave her for a bit) came home and sounds like one very lively baby under her. and she is still very protective. Seeing I did not hear chirping the first time, going to guess it was a dead baby, (I hope).I will try to get her up and clean up under her. Had several hatch eggs and never saw one eat one before, kinds freaked me out. I will up soon. Thanks everyone!

Well, I saw the chick real quick and it seems fine and mama is doing great with talking to her and waiting for others to hatch. I wanted to get under her but no way, no how. She is sitting on 14 eggs (minus the one she tired to eat, the one that is broken and the one hatched) I am worried if I push it to much the little one might get hurt. 14 is a lot off eggs but she has never let me check them to take a few away. She is a fairly new chicken to our group, a friend brought me 7 one day he felt he had to many...... I will check on her again before bed and early in the morning. I will post pics as soon as I can....

Chick eaten was probably already dead.
Get a clean nest ready and move them...that rotten egg mess could kill the chicks.

So far I see 4 happy chicks and she is still sitting on eggs- I will give it alittle longer then I will take them, but she is being great mama. Thanks all for the support. Always can turn to my other chickens friends when I run into a problem =)
