Mama Heating Pad in the Brooder (Picture Heavy) - UPDATE

Alright! Moved the kids outside today and they immediately got to pecking and scratching away! I’m sure they will love all the room-their brooder was 4x4 and now their stall is 8x10!!
Went ahead and put the MHP outside too for them just in cAse-on level 1.

:thumbsup

When I put my 2012's out in the stall coop at about 4 weeks they were a little freaked out by all the space compared to their bathtub in the house. But they got used to it. Seems yours adapted quickly. Life is better when there is room to scratch and stuff to scratch in.

Are you planning to put in some roosts for them? At that age mine were roosting at 4' high, using the 2' high roost as a "stepping stone". In nearly 6 years of having chickens, none have ever roosted on the 2' high pole. I would not be surprised to see you post pictures of the kids in that box on the wall and on top of it fairly soon. They can get to 2' easily at that age.

They had started to roost in the food thing in the brooder, so they have that pole in there that’s about a foot tall. Otherwise no but they are welcome to roost on the box lol that stall is a multi purpose stall so I hadn’t put up any roosts

They look so happy! How old are they? What kinds are they? I like that they are all a bit different. Have you started to think about names yet? I have 2 more months to wait for my chicks!!!!

They seemed very happy! I have no idea what they are..that post is coming in the future. I got a “rainbow pullet pack” that is a mix of bird colors as well as egg colors. I know what a couple are but most of them I’m not sure. They are 4 weeks old tomorrow!! I don’t tend to name them. I have 10 hens and one rooster already and only 3 have names. I only name my favorites lol these kiddos will be joining my adults in the coop in another month or so :)

I’m also adding silkies this week and I’m so excited!!!

Okay, so the MHP is the whole reason I ended up here, and I’m sure glad I did. I have been digging but I can’t seem to find info on the number of chicks you use it for. I have a 12x24 heating pad and plan to use it bungeed to wire frame like the link to the updated version on page one says. I’m looking at 25 chicks, do I need to set up two MHPs?

Thank you guys in advance.

Edit: also, do you guys think the sunbeam pads give out more heat on one side versus another? Mine has a plush side that I think is the contact side for humans.

You will eventually need 2 long ways so they can get out and don't get blocked... Or spaced a couple inches apart so they can go out the middle. Too far apart and they all pile in one.

The side with the writing is warmer
