Mama Heating Pad in the Brooder (Picture Heavy) - UPDATE

Nope, but I did stay in a Holiday Express last night! :lau Little joke there.....um, very little. I’ve seen several references to her, and I think I read the book way back when Katie was first diagnosed with Autism. Kendra may have something called NLDS, a learning deficit common in kids with hydrocephalus. We have to set up an appointment for a consult with a neurophysiological specialist, but the wait for that could be a couple of years yet. If she has this, rather than the Autism and having Global Development Delay, the entire scope of her therapies and treatment will have to change. I hate the thought of that, because I can see progress in her all the time.

Sometimes it takes a bit to get her there, and spelling leaves a little to be desired, but after she writes it we have her read it back to us, then praise her for telling us and give her whatever it is she wanted.
Better be careful, once she learns about money she might spell "I want a million dollars". And you will have to praise her and give her the money.

Video number three: Practicing her sight words with Katie.

Gear up, o dependable old timers.....I see a lot of "I just ordered chicks" posts and I think that we are going to be a little busy in another couple of months! Man, I love it when people are eager to "think outside the box" (the brooder box, that is) and try something new!

I brooded my chicks outside, for the most part it was a success, I lost one to
LISA!!! Nothing right now. Had to rehome the flock in August of 2017 because of our ridiculous travel schedule as Grand Master (in September we were only home for 4 days!) and some minor health issues I was having. Katie and Kendra miss them so much, so I've ordered a hodgepodge of breeds for late next spring. We lost our best chicken sitter when the kids bought a house and moved to the other end of town - Jenny would have to pack up Kendra and her wheelchair just to bring Katie over. Oh, sure Katie could walk over, but without her mom and dad across the street to help her if she ran into a problem or got hurt while we were gone, I don't want to risk it. Tam also bought a house and now she and Evan live in a different town 6 miles from here. So getting just a few, and will be very happy with that. No more chicken math for me!

Only fly in the ointment for new chicks and chickens is our little puppy, Fiona. Not sure how she's going to do with chickens. She'll be a year old by the time they arrive. Wanna see a picture of my puppy at 9 months old? Here ya go! :lau Yeah!

Ever see a living room disappear?

@Bettyboop7499 Be careful what you wish for! All of those cute, fuzzy little chicks turn into extra cleaning, extra feeding, extra treating for mites or whatever (should they get them, of course) and lots of things we don't think about when we look at those little faces. I've been the victim of "chicken math"...fortunately I'm now immune! Been there, got the T-shirt! :he

Yes..I'm learning about 'Chicken Math' I'm also learning you just never know what your getting! I think I have three Pekin drakes....I was so looking forward to Duck eggs:( I'm going to take some pictures and post them and hope for good news:fl

What do you think?

The two on the left, eating the cucumber, I'd say are drakes. The third, on the right, may or may not be, can't really see well enough. They're young, I take it? Their tail feather will curl more and more the older they get.

Yeah..I so have THREE drakes! I had four ducks and the ONE that was lame and had to be put down was most-likely my only female which I'm now thinking Why/how she was injured...:( TY!

Have you seen the movie: Temple Grandin, or read about her story?

Watching your videos made me think of her story.
I had the good fortune of meeting Dr Grandin when attending a continuing education seminar for veterinary personnel. She sat right next to me. When she lectured later that day I got a little wave from the podium! She is brilliant. As the former wife of someone diagnosed with aspergers it was quite inspiring. She revolutionized livestock processing with her insight. A clear indication that you should NEVER give up on someone that learns differently.
