Mama Heating Pad in the Brooder (Picture Heavy) - UPDATE

:gig:gig:gig
Got the same reaction from our 9 month old puppy. A Russian. But she won't get THAT big. Enjoy your puppy! Ours is being a stinker. Eating everything in the backyard. Teething puppies are terrible!

@Blooie
Good to see you here on BYC. Like many others, your Mama Heating Pad idea made life with chicks much easier for me.

Love the IW! We also go for the gentle giants. Sadly we just lost our 11.5 yr old Great Dane in Sept. He had a good long life but the empty dog-less house was too much to bear - especially for the kids. Our family just adopted a large puppy. It's been a LONG time since we had a puppy.

Yep.... he's a puppy!

They are the very best! Mine was extremely loyal hung on to life way past the normal life expectancies
We have wanted one for over 30 years, then she just sorta happened! When we were “discussing” getting her, (that word in quotes because it actually means he had his heart set on it no matter what I’d have said), he said “We have to remember that they don’t have a long life expectancy.” Well, I’m 68 and he’s 71. I said, “Look at us....should come out just about right!” :lau

You have been missed. Can't wait to see pictures of the kids!
Can’t wait to show you some, too. A Blooie without photos is just not worth imagining!

:lol::gig
...and she's only going to get bigger!!
Nice Dog.

Yep, and our old 10x60 trailer house ain’t gonna get any bigger, either, aart, unless she bursts the seams out of the sides!

Yeah, fortunately Fiona saves that kind of activity for outside.....garden hoses, lawn ornaments, decorative flags, and an occasional cement truck or semi! With jaws that are close to 8 or 9 inches long, stuff that goes into that mouth disappears as soon as she closes her lips! But she’s mostly over that puppy I-gotta-chew-something-right-now stage, and she’s gentle as can be.

Just placed my spring order.......February seems so far away......

Shoot, I have to wait until mid-May!! Wanna be home more than we are right now, especially since Katie and family have moved so my best chicken sitter isn’t right across the street anymore.

Oh, I never left BYC...faded in and out at times, but still here. Just traveling more than is humanly possible (duck, its Sooooper Blooie!) and this thread is pretty slow in the off season for chicks, so at least the timing for traveling worked out. Usually by the time I get a chance to see that there’s been a post, one of the others has handled it very well already.

I’m sorry you lost your Great Dane. Looks like you got a fireball to deal with now - handsome dude, too!

I love the chew toys sitting there untouched! And he looks like he’s saying “What, I didn’t do anything “. LOL.
What I didn't mention is that he learned how to open his crate, any sliding door, and latch door handles. He can pull down any baby gate and is already mouthing door knobs. He thinks it's fun to steal from the laundry room or grab TP from the bathroom. I swear my own toddlers were far easier to contain than this puppy. In the long run, I think his high intelligence will make him a great pet. It's just going to take a lot to get him there.

You do have your work cut out for you! Tobasco sauce and Boogy-Dog might turn out to be your best friends!

So Lisa, want photos or a video of Kendra? And Katie will be 13 years old next month, can you believe it? She's so grown up..she's learned to cath Kendra (easier since Kendra had her excretory system reconstructed and we can cath through her belly button) Evan's already 13. Kendra just turned 7. Little Diane was married, but that kinda fell apart so now she's single, living in Sioux Falls, owns her own house and a business - not bad for 23 years old. And Dustin, the guy she was married to, never did get a job their entire marriage, so she's done this all on her own. Jamie and Rachel are living in Chicago. He works at FermiLabs, putting his nuclear training to good use. He works on the nuclear particle accelerator there. Landyn and Maddy are growing like little chicks - he's 5 already and in school, and Maddy is 3. <whew, deep breath!> I think that catches you up pretty well.

Kendra still isn't communicative verbally, but if she wants something she'll go to the refrigerator and write it out with her magnet letters. "I want Play Doh". Sometimes it takes a bit to get her there, and spelling leaves a little to be desired, but after she writes it we have her read it back to us, then praise her for telling us and give her whatever it is she wanted. Bragging, but I taught her to do that. She'll also write it out with pencil and paper. She loves flash cards with sight words on them...often I have to remind Katie that we haven't done the words on the back of them yet, or to slow down, but Kendra is right on top of it, reading every word. Kendra is also getting better with the walker, although she won't use it at home, preferring to either crawl or pull herself up and walk along if she has something to hold on to.

So I have videos of her spelling what she wants on the fridge, doing her flashcards, walking in her walker, and standing without it and laughing at the antics of the chickens. Which would you like to see?

And yes, the thread has been slightly hijacked with my grandkids, but hey, it's my thread! :lau

Okay, for those of you with no interest in the following videos, you are free to leave the room. And don't EVER come back! :lau (You know I'm kidding, right?)

Video number one: Kendra at the door watching the chickens. Listen for the giggles, and she does talk about it being cold!

Video number two: Kendra in her walker at school. Watch for the little head flip.

Video number three: Practicing her sight words with Katie.

Video number four: Cleaning the kitchen for mom. Listen for her to say "eraser".

Bored yet? Well, you didn't have to watch them all! ;)

Video number five: Want Lunch

And now you're about caught up!
