Mama Heating Pad in the Brooder (Picture Heavy) - UPDATE

I’m doing it now and I love it. It was stressful at first but worth it. The chicks are much more content. And someone told me on here be prepared to raise it soon. I already had to raise the front of mine after two weeks!
I brought my first 3 home today, will get 5 more next Monday, I keep checking them, it is so different and a litt stressful.

Do NOT worry about the ambient temperature nor the temp in the cave. Watch the little cuties. They should be able to get their backs up against it. I think that is one reason for the "higher in front than in back", they can find their comfy spot. If they never come out the pad is too cold. If they won't go in it is too hot. If they come and go - JUST RIGHT! Of course they spend more time inside the first few days if you got day old chicks.

I got my set of three chicks today, so far they really like it, they are staying under cover most of the time and are very quiet..although the temps are not 95, closer to 90. I make sure to get them out and show them the food and water, they eat a little and go back under the heating pad.
Unless you live near the hatchery (you can put your location in your profile) they are shipped the day they hatch or the day after. Usually takes 2 days to get to me.
I do live about an hour away from the hatchery here in Ohio.

Did you pick them up then? I sure would if I lived that close. What breeds did you get? From Meyer I have Black Australorps, White Rocks, Barred Rocks, Barnevelders, Welsummers, EE, Exchequer Leghorns and a Golden Campine.

Yes I did pick them up. Less stressful on the little things. I got two Buff Orpington, next Monday I pick up 5 more, two Black Australorp, my first ever! Two Buff Brahma standard And a Golden Laced Wyandotte. My son is going to raise 4 and I will have 4. Just getting started again. I did expand my coop a little, just in case I need more chickens.
