Mama Heating Pad in the Brooder (Picture Heavy) - UPDATE

I went with @Blooie 's suggestion of using an old towel and just tossing it when I took the MHP out,
but I had a P&S covered piece of thin plywood under the towel(good thing too).
Hi @aart I thought that @Blooie 's suggestion was to cover the old towel with the P&S. Not really worried, since it has only been in the past 3 days that they have been hopping up there. They are growing out of the space, and it is time to move them out. Luckily, I sold 4 chicks over the weekend, so there are only 5 under the MHP.

I'd love to see a photo of your MHP set up.

I'm still using P&S on the towel and it made it a breeze just wiping the poop from the top. So far, it's been working for me as I don't want to deal w yucky towels and I don't have the heart to throw away anything that could be reused.

I just had the chance to read Blooie's and Azygous' winning articles. Congratulations! I was very moved and will share them with my school district, as they hatch chicks in the kindergarten classrooms and a lot of people in my rural community have backyard chickens.

I had my doubts about MHP before trying it, but now I can see the difference it makes. I haven't brought myself to raising them outdoors just yet, but reading so many success stories encourages me to try on a future brood.

Finally paying my dues! 6 happy, healthy ducklings love their MHP!

A few of the chicks slept on the nest perch last night, so I put up my extra roost this morning...
...several hours later I observed their approval.

Chickies rambling around the big run...still no apparent issues with the big birds.

That is so funny you said that. I started looking at getting chicken then opted for ducks instead. Finally... I ended up ordering 3 Welsh Harlequin females and 1 male AND... a pair of goslings!
