Good point... Which made me think about Walmart. Does Walmart carry either, andif they do, will they price match?

I have two of the smaller ones, purchased from Walmart, and $13.88 is the "everyday low price".

Measuring with what I have.. My outdoor thermometer. I put the sensor inside the cave.

Heat pads or plates do not work like lamps,
the chicks are warmed by touching the pad or plate,
Whereas a lamp heats the air and ground underneath it.

So measuring the temp of a pad or plate will not work like measuring the temp of heat provided by a lamp.

Best to go by behavior of chicks to determine proper setting for pad or plate.

I read an interesting paragraph about radiant heat, which is what the pads and plates are, yes? I'll see if I can find it, but basically it says *exactly* what you just said.

I have 2 and there is no auto shut off on mine.... and when you unplug them and plug them back in they turn on...
only high med and low settings.... worked for me.

If I read it correctly, whitch I might not have, it will not power on after a power failure, and it does not auto-shutoff..
