Mama Heating Pad in the Brooder (Picture Heavy) - UPDATE

@beautifulpirate SO cute!!!! I cannot wait for Tuesday to get here!!! New babies! Eeeek! <3

These are my first ever. We had pet chickens we had when I was a kid but I didn't learn everything I did now plus my dad let them nest in the open so they both went missing. Later though we found out they had wandered to a local construction site and the crew found them so entertaining that they fed them and took them home as pets for their children. We were glad they went to a good home though. But I have learned so much and this is my first batch 'o babies lol. So exciting!

I'm back! Think I got caught up and looks like you guys did your usual bang up job of answering questions!

Good Evenings folks. I posted this in another thread, but of course I'm ansey and look for some opinions or guidance NOW :) and since this thread has heavy traffic and I'm using MHP......

I dont know if I have a problem. These chicks are about 5 days old. Everythings been going great, very contented. Today I noticed they scattered all their food. A large amount. Nearly an entire chick feeder. Theres only 3 chicks. They dont sound so contented either. Chirping a bit. Is there any idea of what, if anything is going on?

Well, chicken math is real. 5 new babies are under our tried & true MHP. Hubby sewed a cute little cover for it out of flannel to make it extra snuggly for them.
I'm officially a crazy chicken lady.

I don't know of fencing that starts at 1/2" and then gets larger so I don't know how big the larger openings are. Since this is for your outdoor daytime run it would likely be good as long as the wire is a decent gauge and the larger openings (greater than 1") don't start until minimally 18" though 24"-36" would be better.

Daytime run, weasels are usually nighttime threats while the birds are asleep on the roost.

cuties......

BTW chicken math has not even started to hit you yet if you just have 5 babies...

I have 20 babies in the house, 30 babies in the shed, 30+ eggs in the hatcher, about 150 in the incubator and about 60 sitting on the counter waiting to go in the incubator......

My wife seems irritated by the chicks, or me, but we know that is not possible, who could ever get upset with chicks or me?

We have plenty of room for more chicks, the two cages in the living room are empty and I have one empty tank outside and a couple tractor/brooders that need chicks...And if she got her junk out of the one storage shed I could put another 100 birds in there....

See I told you there is no reason for her to be upset...

Here's a repost. Don't know why I'm having trouble. The dark chick is a LF Blue Cochin. I had only 2 eggs hatch out of 6 shipped eggs that made it to lockdown. Boo! But I have more hatches over the next few weeks. I put my 1 day old and 14 hr old under mama with the 3 farm store chicks and everyone is doing great.

Here's a view under Mama. I put a 1day old and a 14 hr old under it along with the 3 week old farm store chicks. Everyone seems to be doing great.[/QUOTE]
