Mama Heating Pad in the Brooder (Picture Heavy) - UPDATE

Should work fine, MesMama. Just remember to harden your heart - they don't need light after the sun goes down!

My little chicks are loving the MHP and having soo much room. I am loving having them outside.

They are 1 week old and it's in the 70's (in the sunny spot)in the coop so they have spent very little time in there today. Yesterday it was in the low 60s, Monday in the 50s and they spent a lot of time in the MHP. With 14 new chicks we needed the room. I am so glad I found this idea.

It puts out 20 lumens, so about as much light as a night light. Seems like it should work fine.

Yeah that's the deal, I don't want it too bright...it's hard to buy something like this online and unfortunately I don't think any place around here sells anything similar :/

So we're 50/50 on this light so far LOL!  Anyone else have input? :)

Yeah, no lights after the sun. And also i didnt really pay attention to the lumens, apologies. Just usually LEDs are bright and to me it looked a big like a florescent strip but if it's only as bright as a nightlight it should be fine i think. But buying online is definitely hard because you don't know if it's going to be like a nightlight or way brighter

You don't have a hardware or chain drugstore or big box store nearby...I see those things in all kinds of stores.

@Blooie I think it's for day time, dark coop/brooder.

Yeah, but I figured a gentle reminder to just use in the daytime couldn't hurt.

Edited to add: Hey, @aart How's the hatch coming along? I was wondering earlier....

Sounds good! Yeah I'm not so much concerned once it gets dark, I like to let them all go to bed with the sun, but man on cloudy days and even sunny days it's SO dark in that right hand corner :eek:

I'm confused as to what it's for, exactly. If you've got a window in the room or building in which you are brooding, that should be enough light for them in the day time. Is it so you can see better when you are feeding and watering?

I have Theisens (farm and home store), True Value and Walmart. I'm headed to town tomorrow and I'll check around, I didn't think about True Value ;)

The brooder has a lid and blocks most of the natural light from coming in, here's a pic, and this is on a sunny day
