Mama Heating Pad in the Brooder (Picture Heavy) - UPDATE

Blooie, congrats on your winning the article writing contest!
Thanks, my friend! I was tickled beyond belief that you garnered a first place win in the same contest! (Ralphie, you can look that word up later - teehee). Just fantastic that such an unconventional approach to chick raising was recognized like that - and you did such a great job!!
Say what?? OK Blooie, post a link here, I missed it.

I see that @aart made Chicken pic of the week

With a MHP in the pen no less.
Here's the link to my article, Bruce..

I fell in love with that picture of the chick peeking out of the corner the first time I saw it and it still makes me smile everytime I log on! Congrats, @aart
I would post the link, but I am laying low to avoid the wrath of Blooie.....

I saw aart's picture too. I like the cute little guy peeking around the corner.
Now why would you need to avoid the wrath of Blooie? I ain't the vengeful type.....bwahahahaha

...and you too azygous, sharing first prize spot with Blooie.
No no.... Ralphie is sharing with @azygous.....he stole - er- won fair and square!!

Relax, Ralphie! You get to take your trip winning first place and share that with our very own @azygous instead of getting stuck with me on a plane...for hours...with no nicotine! Congratulations to both of you, by the way! You each did a great job with your articles and I loved seeing them recognized!

Thanks..

I am still in negotiations with BYC, they do not seem to be garnering up the type of Aircraft I desire, and there is some sticking points over the first class seating...

I also am disappointed my "marital advice" article did not win. It would save countless marriages.... It has saved mine countless times.

I liked your article. I've been doing that with my longhorns. Won't take long to get that way with chickens.

Quote: ManOMan......easiest integration ever!!
Chicks are a bit confused at times, like getting back up the run ramp if a big bird is near or on the ramp.
Big birds seem totally unconcerned, there's been a few feints and pecks but absolutely no chasing that I've seen.
Chicks are lounging/playing all over main coop(on roosts, ramps, poop board, nest perch, floor) and out in run.
They are eating, and drinking, and sleeping in a chick raft in their refuge on the floor....huddle box has been ignored so I removed it.

Congrats, I found our integration super easy and have observed a lot of what your chicks are doing in ours. Lots of exploring going on and nobody seems to care. It has been great!

I am brooding my new chicks in the coop with their mama heating pad as well. Right now they are confined in a secure cage. Did you allow yours free range of the coop and run from day one (with appropriate escape routs)? I was going to wait at least a week to give everyone a little time to get used to each other first. Just curious.

Quote: I think the integrating when as young as possible, they're chicks/babies and no real threat, might really help a lot.
I've read so many different things and only experienced some.....time will tell, life is a never ending experiment/learning experience....
......will be interesting to see how this merge progresses thru peeps to honks, cockerels leaving, POL, and then oldest leaving.
