Man I hate the egg laying song!

I love the egg song, though I wonder which of the neighbors are muttering curses at me and my loud birds when the whole flock gets going. And sometimes, I wonder if it's a distress alarm. A quick glance out the window will assure me that all is well. If I see a bird or two going about their business, then I know all is well.

If I'm out tending birds, and see a gal standing in the nest, I will wait till she plops it out, then tuck it in my pocket along with all the others. Nothing like finding a warm egg!

Whenever I hear it I think my chicken are in distress so I run out and disturb them. I am sure I will settle down with time, but it doesn't sound like a happy moment.

When I first heard "the song" my first thought was.... Egg Song??? Eh...me thinks it's more of a "Get this dang thing out of me!!!" scream!!! You know...like human child birth without an epidural!

But humans want to make everything butterflies and rainbows...so they give it a cutesy little name like "Egg Song". :D

Wait until you get a hen comfortable enough to be held and she lays an egg on your lap. :lau
I've had this happen on more than one occasion. One was a guinea she had her band around her foot instead of her leg I gently lifted her up no signs of about to lay an egg and baboom eggo fell i missed it and it smashed, another time I was holding my top of the pecking order hen who is also a pet and she layed one in my arms. I thought for sure she had poo'd on me but it was a nice breakfast meal.

I have a young pullet inside that has only been laying for maybe a month. I looked for her egg the other day and she hadn't laid yet. Went back a few minutes later, and there it was. She hadn't made any extra noises at all. Plop, there it is!

Nah, Me thinks the whole "screaming woman" thing is a fabrication of the movies for the drama of it all. Gotta fill the screen time with something while waiting for the baby to start squalling.
