Manufactured Home Blues

No, our house does not have metal siding. We have the vinyl siding that most stick built houses use, shutters, nice overhang and shingled roof.

Ok, watched the video that you suggested. That is so cute, loved it. Don't think I have laughed that hard in a while.
Thanks, I needed that.

Thanks for your post, you are right on we do have a dry place to stay and since our 30 year mortgage is affordable our home is not the only place
that our money is going to. We have money to spend on the chickens and other things that we want to do.

Thanks again

All of our closets are walk in. The master closet is huge, has lots of good storage place. I will have to say that is a nice
feature of our house.

Hello! I live in a manufactured home. I always get that mixed up......Is it a mobile home or manufactured home? Our home was built in a factory, and transported in two pieces to our property, where it was put onto our foundation. We have a full basement, and our house has an attic. It is now listed as a "stick home" on the deed. Never the less, it was built in a factory.

I'm not sure which one you have, the mobile home or the manufactured home.....I always get mixed up. The only difference I see from our house to a mobile home, is that some of the moble homes have those seams in the walls and ours doesn't, plus we have the attic. (It's not a crawl space up there, we have an upstairs bedroom in one section, and the attic for storage in the other.) We payed extra for that.

I really think, if you have a nice mobile home, or a manufactured home, it's perfectly OK. My husband and I looked at several and we really liked them. Some of them are just beautiful.

We live in the country, in the boonies, really, up a hill in a cul-de-sac with two neighbors. Their homes are mobile homes, and they're on foundations and look just fine. You really would never know it.

So I think you should enjoy and be proud of your house, and don't pay any attention to people who are negative!

ENJOY YOUR HOME!

We live in a house that was built in 1929 and mostly from wood that was stolen from the railroad or so my elderly neighbor told me. She had lived in this area all her life and I have no reason to doubt her. When we moved in the bathroom was a pantry that they converted into a bathroom. It was so small you could sit on the toliet put your feet in the shower and brush your teeth at the same time. We have since changed that but lost alot of the kitchen doing that. It is a 4 room house that we raised 5 children in. It is drafty and wiring is old. I would love to be able to tear it down and put a MH home on it but money wont let us do that. We have homes in our area that are big fancy houses, but ours is our home. Our childrens family home so unless I could afford to move in the country which that wont happen I am content to live the rest of my life in my stolen drafty home.

Hi chickmom,

I too get the names mixed up. We live in manufactured home well the deed says so anyway. Our home was built in a factory and transported to our
property in two pieces. It is placed on a brink foundation and strapped to the ground on both sides. Not sure how many straps but they
run down the length of the house several on each side I would say at least 10 on each side. According to the inspector there are no wheels, axles,
or tongue under the house. Our house does have the seams that are on the walls, but from what I an tell some do and some do not.

When we bought it we thought it was a mobile but then when the inspector from the insurance company came out to look at it
so that we could get a mortgage he said that it was a manufactured home and is insured the same as a site built house with a 30 year mortgage.

Like you I get all the names mixed up...mobile, manufactured, modular. Sounds all the same to me sometimes.

My frustration is that the media deems all of the homes made in a factory as unsafe to live it and has an overall bad impression of them.
I guess sometimes when you hear something often enough you start to believe it.

Thanks for you post, it was very helpful.

Something to think about, modular/manufactured/mobile....(whatever lol). I was told that a (now maybe it's modular LOL) Anyhow, our home, built in a factory, has 30% more building materials than a home built on site, because it HAS to survive the transporting. So it is actually heavier and sturdier than a home that was built on the site.

Hmmm, something to think about, when you consider a tornado or harsh winds.......The heavier, the better, you would think......

We're pretty much stuck in our house because the market has fallen so hard, we can never get what we paid for it now, but that's OK. We like it there.....The sad thing is that we're kind of "house poor". I sometimes wish I could move and have a much lower house payment. I wouldn't think twice about moving into a manufactured home again.

You know I have heard that too. Makes me wonder why the media still says to flee any structure that in not site built in the event of a storm. With all the mixed messages
I get confused sometimes. I know that they have to be built fairly well to handle the transportation to the site of placement.

I hear ya about the housing market. We have made lots of improvements since we bought our house, I do not think that would
could get out of it all the money that we have put into it either.
