I purchased this hen as I was after a blue layer and was told this is a Cheshire Blue hybrid, but upon several hours of research and speaking to breeders I was informed it isn't what I was told and could may be a Manx Rumpy or Gamefowl as they are known in the U.K.
I was informed this is a rare breed also, is this correct or again have I been hoodwinked.
Thanks in advance.

Might be an araucana, as they are a rumpless blue egg layer. Does it lay blue eggs?

Araucanas can be tufted, but not all are. Tufting is a lethal gene, so breeding tufted to tufted results in unhatched embryos dying. To avoid that, some breeders breed only tufted to untufted birds, thus there are untufted birds as a result.

Pyxis is correct... and so are you... US standards, Araucanas are to be rumpless and tufted, though clean faced is common... UK standards, Araucanas can be rumpless, tufted, bearded, crested, or tailed...

If she was in the US, my first guess would be Araucana... and with her comb and face so bright red now, I'd say she should lay any day now and you'll know for sure...

I am based in the UK which is why I was leaning more towards Manx than Araucana, hopefully I am wrong as I was hoping for blue eggs as my daughters are excited by the blue egg outcome. She is showing signs of being ready to lay so hopefully all will be revealed. The Manx gene is rare here in the UK and that is why I want to be certain tbh.

After some digging, Manx Rumpy's are more commonly known to have a single comb, white earlobes, and light colored legs... so most likely she is an Araucana... I'd say your odds for getting blue, blue/green or green eggs from her is good...

So 'Buzzy' started laying last week and they are a lovely shade of blue, so Araucana she is. She is an escape artist too who isn't content on being in the run and much prefers the garden
