Maran Discussion Thread!!

I wanted to find a French Maran discussion thread because I absolutely LOVE my new Maran, but I couldn't, so I thought: Why not make one? As long as you follow BYC rules, everyone is welcome to discuss anything about Marans...hens, roos, or chicks! To get the thread started, here are some questions about your Maran(s):

• Hen or Roo?
• What is his/her name?
• How old are they?
• What is their temperament?
• Why/when did you decide to get a Maran?
• What is their color type?
• How many do you have?

Here is a little bit about my Maran pullet, Opal: I have my very first 6wk old Cuckoo Maran. Of all my chicks (Brahma, Orpington, Australorp, etc.), she is the sweetest! Every time I go out there, assuming I sit down, she will jump onto my lap and sleep on me for so long! I have never had a Maran before, but I was not expecting this when I got Opal - I am very pleased, to say the least.

Of course, from my view there is always room for more discussion about Marans. I think there are 23 in the flock right now.

Marans are named for a town on the coast of France so "Marans" with an s, is singular.
