Cheryl~ Cuteness OVERLOAD on those chicks too! OMGosh!
Have you tried asking the folks over in the Wheatens thread...I bet Don (snowbird) has some advise on this that he can share.
Gilavina~ I have 2 pips this morning. Valentine's Babies! One little chickie will be here very soon...I'm soooo shocked, it is the first egg from one of my Black Copper girls. (edited at 602AM....that little chickie is here and it looks like it may be black.
) The other egg that has pipped is from one of my old faithful girls a Splash Copper hen. I bet it's a blue.
I don't see anything happening with the other egg...
people do it often when they have a pure flock and then some different hens in just for eggs, or lack of space, that way they only get the pure eggs to hatch and not the crossbreds. I don't see why you couldn't use different colors on different hens to track who lays what though.
Sib
Kim! that is so fantastic you have Valentine's babies coming!!
I love how much more resilient chicks are than one would think, i know it surprises me everytime
I am still hatching...I am up to 21 chickers out of 29 or 30 eggs. this morning is the second half of day 21...so I'm thinking I will still get more. I've got some huge monsters and some blues and blacks. So far no splash...but I do have one giant yellow chick that might end up being splash...who knows yet
I work in a pharmacy and one of the pharmacists has 8 kids. She gets chicks every year to teach the younger ones about taking care of animals, lifecycle etc. So 4 or 5 of my chicks that I know are already showing obvious faults or etc will go hang out at their house for a couple weeks. It might sound dorky, but I'm excited to share these fuzz balls with them. I think they are already spoiled!
Sending good hatching vibes for you and your chickers!!!
We are doing practice run hatches in prep for when we get the Marans eggs- so as of this am we have 5 eggs pipped(due tomorrow) if act 1 egg pipped last night
Lots of good shipping and hatching vibes to all getting eggs or hatching!
I so want to hatch my own birds, if only they would lay me some dark eggs. My non-Marans have started to lay again; those lazy Marans girls are still on winter break.
I couldn't wait for a fuzzy fix so I bought the cute little buggers from aceschix!
It is starting to get warmer, maybe now is the time to start buying hatching eggs!
