This is a fast moving forum - - - 5 pages since this morning when I posted this, so I am re-posting just to give myself a bump.
I've been posting on the speckled sussex thread too, but there are FEW posters there

As soon as it stops raining, I am on the way out to get a picture of my roo - - - TSUNAMI - -
We have high hopes for this Boy !

This one has a larger, redder comb, but I think she's a hen.

One of my roosters.

I caught these guys free-ranging in the compost pile. The rest of them went into the woods. I have 12 from Greenfire Farms.

Please let me know what you think.
Thanks, Brenda

Edited to say they were born around 5/7/10.

I'm guessing you bought a flock with 7 hens and a rooster? That's funny ... I tried to buy it but we couldn't connect; kind of why I figured maybe the golden's weren't in the cards for our project. But you know ... hatching eggs is probably going to be just fine ... now to find a good start for some eggs!

I hatched a BC chick on July 4th, I posted some photos a couple days after and the general consensus was that the chick was a male. I really wanted a little girl, obviously, so I've held onto the chick until now. I know somebody who is willing to take him (or her) and a few other young cockerels I have. I don't want to rehome him/her until I know for sure though that it's a he, or not if it's a she.

Anyways, the chick has a large comb already, but it's very pink. It hasn't turned red. It also has very little to no wattles and I feel like it feathered in more like a pullet rather than a cockerel. I'm torn. I'm going to go get some photos to see if anybody else might think it's a pullet...

I have a questions regarding comb color for hens and roosters. Mine range from pale orange to bright red for both sexes. Which is more correct and do they change with maturity?
Thank you,
Brenda

MY TURN, My Turn, my turn,

This is my BCM Hen. She is BLACK not gray / blue. I had to use a flash to get to pics and it made her look gray / blue in a couple. She went broody and hatch out a chick a couple of months ago. She lost a lot of weight during that time. . . She is 9 months old.

The first picture was taken BEFORE the weight loss. The rest were just taken a few minutes ago. Her chick keeps jumping on her back, so she has a couple of poses where her back is "Swayed Back". Under normal conditions and chick is not around hassling her, she carries herself like the first picture.

Please, GIVE ME YOUR FEEDBACK. I am a newbie - - - so be specific so that I can learn how to spot the faults.

BEFORE HATCHING CHICK . . . . age 5 - 6 months

I just posted a few pictures of my FBCM hen. Now, pics of my roo. He is still young appx 6 months old. PLEASE, give me your feed back. . . . I do think his tail has issues and his comb has a few to many points - - - BUT other than that how is he ? ? ? How bad is the tail - - - is it a DQ ? ?
How many points are actually on his comb ? ? ?

Well I am not nearly as educated as the others here ... but I love your rooster! The breadth of the breast is fabulous! I love the coloring (will admit that I looked 3 times in the one photo to confirm that it was light glare and not white). Yes the comb has too many points (minor issue at this point), the wattles are too long in my view (for a balanced picture) and of course his tail set reminds me of a fancy hip-hop dancer with their rear in the air! But ... beautiful bird!
