I guess I'm in for my first adult molt. The run today looked like a black feather pillow fight ensued! Since the dummies all stood out in the rain today, I could see sparseness in the feathering too. Some was from the roo's La'mour I'm sure, but other feathers are missing too. Eggs started to slow down, but I also have 2 new layers just starting. Hope they all get through it quickly! Winter is making a short come back here in the next couple of nights, so maybe that will push it along? Dumb 8 week chicks can't figure out how to get in the coop when it rains!

They still don't know to go to the coop at dark either. That said, tonight I just shuttled them in, and it looked like a light bulb may have come on in their little brains!

Let's hope!

poularde is on day 10 or 11 (???)...anyway, she sent me a message and told me that she has 10 good developing eggs and she removed some that were clear, I think 6. I can't remember now if she said that she had any quitters.

Good Morning folks......I was just reading the winter storm warning that is posted to begin tomorrow...it doesn't look good for wednesday night into thursday...Marans, Marans, Marans....

I feel your pain Mel. It is 21* here this morning. The chickens were NOT pleased!

The nights here lately have been in the lower to mid 40s, so this was quite a wake-up to remind us all, it's still February!!

Pink ~ My eggs are on day 4. I checked on the one with the dent this morning (Bill x Splash), and it still looks good, no gooey!

I'll try to candle at day 8 and see what I can see!

After the heat wave that hit the midwest this weekend, yesterday and today were a bit shocking! 10 degrees here in Kansas, back to frozen waterers if left overnight! Oh well, spring is in sight...I think.

Yea, the hens were trying to peck on me about my poor Roo...so I got rid of the issue -- if not the problem -- and it's "peck - no - more".
