Cool, Thanks for sharing. DON'T OPEN IT!!!! Just asking. I am sitting on the edge of my chair. Very interested to see how your hatch rate is with them at a higher humidity level. I have never been able to get the humidity up that high to try. The best I've ever been able to get was like 60% once and it didn't last that long. If it works great for you and you have a good hatch rate, I will try up'ing the hum. on my next hatch if I can get it that high and see if it makes a difference.

eta: I can't wait to see how everyone's hatches go and compare all the different methods that each person uses and see what all the different outcomes may be. I will learn tons and tons by this. Thanks for helping make that happen.

Good Evening Everyone, Today was a busy day for me. It is day 21 for my hatch that I received from Kim. (Pinkchick) It was actually a shipment of Welsummers but she was kind enough to through in a couple Marans to see how they did. Well, my very first egg that hatched was one of the Marans. Kim had marked on the nice dark egg. (Charmin's egg-Blue Copper) I will let her speak up about the rooster, she put it on the egg but I can't remember which rooster it was. I'm still in lockdown so I can't pick it up and read it now.

Here is some photos of the very nice chick not even a day old. Everyone please let me know what I have. I'm thinking it might be a Splash.

Tell me what you think.

Go Chickie!

Oh and unless Poularde weighs in then you have the first chick from shipped eggs and you started your hatch after she did! Too Cool!
Thanks for posting the little cutie! I'm so happy!

I am FORCED to use my roo with the white until I find a roo with a better body that doesn't have white. . . .

I will be hatching eggs from several breeders this year and raising many, many, many, roos. The reason why is I want to select the best for future use. My roo has a short back and my hens have long backs. . . If by breeding these, I hatch hens and roos that are more correct in form . . . then I am one step closer to the standards. Plus, my roo is pretty chunky. I think he will add statue to my hens offspring. The white feather issue will have to wait until I can find roos without the issue.

I think that as long as I improving each generation, then I am doing no harm. I wish I had the option of not using him . . . but he is the best I have right now. A year from now, that may not be the case. . . . I only sell my chicks as pet quality AND I state that clearly in my advertising . . . Once again no harm done. I have had several people who know nothing about showing and aren't interested in showing. They just want home grown eggs.

This goes back to what you have said MANY times before - - - sellers need to be honest about the issues with their flock. As long as we are not promising "rainbows and pots of gold", the breed and public at large do not have to suffer.

Where is she ? Has anyone checked her status to see when she last posted anything? Maybe her computer crashed . . .

I heard from her daughter and she told me that Debbi's modem was kaput and that she thought/hope her mom would be back up and running by this week. I'm sure she will be back soon.

Too Funny - - - I just sat down this morning and designed my THIRD and BIGGEST brooder to handle all the potential chicks from this hatch.

Dh needs to put the sun roof on the last brooder this weekend. Those started speckled sussex chicks are shipping Monday or Tuesday!
They will need a place to call home.

The NEWEST and BEST BRooder - - - I will try to build during the week. I see a trip to home depot this weekend for wood.

If'n you don't come and get'em...I will be tempted to keep them and I don't need anymore chickens............................................................................................yet.

By the way....give those other girls some more time....the pure Davis birds should have even better copper than last years birds. All of a sudden one day you will look and see a glimpse of copper starting in the hackles. They can take a couple months if not a few+ to get all their copper. I've noticed that the males can take even longer to get copper than the females. This year one of my 2 year old Black Copper gals who had a little too dark and not too much copper in her hackles, ended up with even more copper and a tad lighter hackles after her last molt.

I've found this to be true with birchens as well....i have a pullet that is about a year old and she is still getting coloring in...

I wanna see it when you get it done! I am working on another brooder for chicks specifically hatched out for other folks, I have several chicks coming as well and also growing several out for myself, so the extra brooders will be greatly appreciated on my part, but, DH is not too excited about it being kept in the shop, but hey...atleast I put it on wheels and it will roll right out of the way, and he thinks I was kidding about making another one. NOT!
