Ohhhhhhhhhhh, I love those childhood memories too. For me it was with my Vava (grandmother) she always had chickens. Nothing special, just feed store dual purpose, but oh the memories.

Yeah...I never thought after college i'd be back into poultry again..but if I look back, it really was just a matter of time. I spent a long while in the city getting my degrees and traveling overseas a lot, but all the time I felt like being away from animals wasn't something I could do anymore. I just hit my limit I think and now here I am...and I'm pretty dang happy about it

Good for you............Life should be enjoyed & I think Chicken lover's have a good handle on that.....LOL

How are your eggs coming along in your incubator?

Last night I candled my 26 eggs that I set along with Math Ace, removed 12 clear and a couple quitters from that batch of eggs. Appears that even though I downsized Gnarles' flock size again, that he still has his favorite girls. The couple of girls that I am having problems with are also the 2 girls that are laying the lightest colored eggs in that coop, they have laid a light milky chocolate colored egg since they started laying. For everyone who has received eggs from me.....I did not include these girls' eggs in your boxes, just FYI.

The rest of my eggs all looked good but all I could see was veining.

CP's eggs~
I only candled the Marans eggs and the one Wellie egg that she sent. All look good, can only see veining in them with the exception of one of Smokey's (Blue Copper) eggs....I saw movement in that one!!

I am not candling the Wyandotte eggs...can't stand the thought of looking in to them and being heart broken if some of them are not good. I'm just going to wait and see what hatches with the Dotties.

Dear Lord! My heart and prayers go out to the people of Japan this morning! I hope all of you guys in Hawaii and the west coast shores fare much better than Japan! Get to higher ground. I can't even imagine an 8.9 quake, the biggest one I was in was a 7.1, and that was when I decided to move to MO.! Those living on the San Andres fault line should be aware of the potential for a big quake to react to the one in Japan. Hopefully, it doesn't set off the New Madrid fault out here. Everyone please be safe..

What kind of Wyandottes are you hatching Kim? That is the most recent breed I have been considering but all the varieties have me in a turmoil.....LOL

Hmmm, just a guess on my part, but I'd almost bet Kim is hatching BLR Wyandottes??

Pink do you have any idea what they will look like when feathered?

I KNOW this is going to seem weird, BUT a few of my friends with BCM's want to see pics of my delawares.
I tried to take a pic of the BCM roo that is the same age as the Delaware roo for a size comparison, but he was in the shadows and it didn't come out good.

It is 45 degrees outside and for me THAT IS TOO COLD - - Don't laugh all you yankees out there!
So, we are suppose to warm up to the 70's tomorrow. I will get out there with Dh and we will take another photo of the two roos side by side THEN!

Until then . . . here are some LONG OVER DUE photos of my delaware roo and one of my hens.
