Kim, Don't feel badly, I feel blessed that I got 5! That seems to be my number for hatches, that's what I got with Tannis' clutch too. So far I've had; 4, 1, 5, 3, and 5. Hmm, maybe someone's way of keeping me from drowning in chickens??

AND, I think I am seeing 3 roos and 2 pullets here. C'est la vie, but maybe one will be a Gnarles!

One of my younger pullets is a purple egg layer! Got a huge bloomy egg yesterday. Wet half of it, and sure enough, it was about a 5 ruby when wet! Dried to a RIR chalky/purpley shade! Weird..

The one with the hernia was cheeping so loudly last night, I checked to see if it was in pain or what? Took it out of the bator, and the "thing" was gone??? Did it suck back in or fall off??

Most likely it corrected itself and is back in the body cavity where it belongs and closed. This is great! Hope they all continue to do great for you!

I hope you got a little Gnarles boy as well! Been getting lots of pullets from Gnarles' pen, not too many boys at all. Bill's girls have been pretty good at producing a nice managable amount of boys in hatches, like 1 or 2. I did get a pure Davis BCM cockerel from my last hatch....he is smaller than the rest of the chicks and tricked me....first I guessed cockerel, then I changed my mind to pullet.........now it's definately a cockerel. The little comb that popped up all of a sudden is a dead ringer. Funny at day 3, the sexing method I use said cockerel and then by days 7-8 the wings and tail said girl and so did the comb, but just a few short days later, his comb is the biggest thing on his body and turning pink. Little sneaky buggers.

The rest are pullets and they are 2 weeks old today.

Pink, At this point I am just looking at the legs. There are 2 with tree trunks already! Another 2 have very fine looking legs. One is in between, but has a more prominent comb.

I don't judge them by combs any more after my first hatch. Beaut was born with a huge comb and was a large chick. She now lays really pretty eggs!

Cold, dark, and gray here today, with snow going on to the north of me, like 5" worth!

Hope it stays there...

Well, here are a couple of my typical crappy pics

There's always one that won't cooperate!

The hernia/Bill chick is on the left.

So are the 2 on the left of the second photo both very light colored...like a silvery and very light blue? Also, the one on the far right of the first photo looks like it could be a Black Copper....is it Black?

Yes, Bill's chick and the other are lighter blue, but very distinctly blue. The one that appears to be black also has a lot of silver-like strands going through the feathering, so I'm thinking a darker blue? Couldn't believe the markings on Bill's chick, almost wild-like, in shades of blue, black, and cream. I think it's a pullet too!

The one on the far right, standing, in the second pic is the one that looks black in the first pic. What say you Grandma, black or blue??
