Marans Thread - breed discussion & pictures are welcome!

Koolduck - - I like roo #3 BEST.
Why is everyone picking roo #1 OVER roo #3 ? ? ?

Roo #3 has a more developed chest and his back doesn't seem to be as long as roo #1.

So, those who said Roo #1 - - - Why not roo # 3 ?

Math Ace,

It's an apples & oranges thing, the third roo is a Wheaton. I agree though, out of the three, I think the Wheaton, body-wise, is the best looking. The other two are BCM and look younger, so less filled out. That said, I believe I see some white fluff on the Wheaton?

OK...lets get this out in the open...there is NOTHING...I mean NOTHING, that you all can say about my chixs that will offend me! Now....If you start talking about my Momma or my horses...that's another thing entirely and be ready to defend yourself cause we are going to fight!

I got these Marans on a lark. The guy I bought my original chicky poos from(see signature) got into these marans in a big way and hatched one of every kind...wheatons, BCs, Cuckoos, Whites...so what the hay, I got some...alot actually! ....I sold six Whites to some friends....now looking at them and dealing with them....I like the Whites, they are nice birds. My white pullet has laid the 1st maran egg...kinda terracotta looking, so Im happy. Ive been to a couple of shows now including the Ohio Nationals...all 5800 birds! I show my horses, and the husband and I show flowers( daffodils, roses, and dahlias) so showing chickens is the natural progression. So thats why Im askin questions now! At the KY State fair show this year they had a lot more bantams than Lg breeds...no Marans...and the guy from Simpsonville Ky who shows Speckled Sussex won again!

You are right! The Wheaton is a nice bird....in form and function....he keeps getting picked on by that darn Cuckoo...I saw the white fluff too but Ive seen that on the French maran website and other places...so I dont know!

Im just trying to learn more about them .... cause if Im not asking questions...CHECK FOR A PULSE!

It's my understanding that fluff is not a DQ, couple of my roos have fluff around the base of the tail but it is not white....it is light blue grey but then I breed blues so it may be different.

One of the youngest blue copper pullets went and did it.........I got an egg yesterday.

This was taken like 2 minutes ago on my kitchen counter with a flash and no other lights on, but is right infront of the window for natural light. My kitchen is black and slate and stainless steel, so it is very dark and when I turn the lights on in there it makes for horrible photos and backflash. This photo is very accurate with the real color of this egg.

It was aweful quiet.. If it wasn't for Math Ace.. I would have just been listening for crickets again.

Koolduck
... You are FUUUUUNNN EEEEEE!!!!

Pinkchick: Good morning!!!! what is your take on the lighter fluff of the wheaton... I can't find anywhere that states that as a fault, nor do I find it for the BC's

If anyone can find that please show me... I see no white allowed but not lighter black, aka grey/blue. Send me a link if ya find something.

Can I pet your egg?? That is real nice... (are ya going to hatch it??? ) Hope for a roo!!!
