i was wondering if any one here is dealing with the problem of feather shank inhibitor gene in there flock ? and are you culling because of it ?it so happens that one of my hens that has nice feather shanks
throws a few clean leg birds sometimes . it still baffles me why that happens every once in a wile ..
I know nothing about genetics but I think one hen carries one copy of that feather shank inhibitor gene on the allele that controls the trait for feather legs .so I was wondering if the chances could be the same that my one roo thats the one that carries the shank inhibitor or if its just as likely ?i narrowed it down from one roo and 3 hens
It seems to happen to one of two hens I have I just havent narrowed it down yet .
So I would guess that the of feather shank inhibitor gene would pass to the siblings also ...thanks for your input !
