Marans Thread - breed discussion & pictures are welcome!

Every time I think I am done with chicks someone around here goes BROODY arrrgggg!! Two days ago the freeranging Olive Egger girl went broody on the patio next to the broody duck! She is on about 8 OEs and I stuck 5 guinea eggs under her (well in front of her since she tried to bite my hand off) but she's sitting on them now. These were my first guinea eggs and they could possibly be fertiliezed by a golden cuckoo marans roo, BCM roo or a guinea LOL!

I did break the sussex off her broodiness by every morning luring her away with grapes (her favorite) and then locking her out of the run to freerange with the others. After a few days she forgot about sitting. I guess she probably wasn't that dedicated.

The sun is out!! Supposed to get into the upper 60s here today, and near 80 tomorrow!! Will turn everyone loose today, even the two younger blue copper roos, not Pink's, the previous clutch with Blue Butt and Bump. Time for them to become one with the flock, at least in the yard for now. May actually get to mow the lawn if it dries out enough today. Monday, in comes the rain and severe weather!

Congratulations Jeremy! I know how hard it is to wait that long for the last ones to hatch but you did the right thing! I had a hatch go until day 27 and boy howdy was that ever nerve wracking but very worth it. If I had given up I wouldn't have my little Blue Bill Jr boy growing out as we speak. Very Very glad I rode out the wait. Can't wait to see them! How many more blues did you get?

Bring on the sunshine! We (well Portland, Oregon where I spent the day) had a beautiful sunny day yesterday, but as my children inform me just an hour north where we live wasn't so nice and sunny all day like it was in the Portland and spouted out a couple of drizzly showers and of course as soon as we enter our county we are greeted with a downpour.

Morning Everyone!!! No sun or warmth here. I have a chick in my make-shift hatcher tray, 2 pips in the hatcher and I am dying to know what is going on under the broody.

Hang on Tannis, the sun is coming your way! Maybe you could put a baby monitor in with the broody? Then at least you could hear what's happening? Hmm, maybe not, that would make me want to LOOK!!

Thanks Pink! I think I just hatched the one little blue, which is a lovely lighter shade, I've started calling it Periwinkle, LOL. I really really want her to be a pullet!

I think the other 4 chicks are Black Coppers, unless someone is a very, very dark blue?
