That is so wierd. ...............I have Black Orpingtons due to hatch yesterday the 9th & nothing at all is happening. I rechecked my notes & calendar thinking I must have figured something wrong.........I have NEVER had nothing on a hatch day before. I haven't hatched Orpingtons before though. Sometimes my Marans can be slow. I will wait & see.

I don't know about sex linked but I do know I wish I had a hundred Marans because I am constantly getting calls on people wanting those. Of course alot of the people want POL & not to bother raising themselves but want them at a good price......LOL

That is so funny but true & easy to do. I have found to the unexperienced eye some black chicks look the same as some other black chicks.....LOL. If you are lucky to throw all feathered shanks you can easily pick out the Marans but sometimes my Marans will throw a clean leg & I have trouble telling them from the Black Australorps.......LOL

Are you sure it is a HE ??

If you are not sure, could I get a close up of the tail / saddle region? Also, how old is it?

To answer your question - - - YES there are pure black marans. I don't think they are as common as other colors, but they are out there. There is also a pure white marans.

Yes, as Lisa said, there are pure blacks & I just hatched out 6 for Carrie (Harmony Oaks) & just hatched out 6 pure whites for myself.....................Now if the Black Orpingtons would just break loose for me I would be a happy camper.....LOL I'll take some pictures later..............

Here's the pictures of my 6 White Marans & Carrie's 6 Black Marans which one of turned out to be a Salmon....LOL

I'm hearing peeping in the incubator...my mystery hatch is finally hatching. Good thing I put them in the hatcher when I did...must have been pretty close to day 19 when I moved them...Now its just to be patient until I can open the incubator and say hello to all the fuzzers.

a question???
(I hope this is the correct place to ask this --)

I have read many of the posts on this thread but not all 1420!
I do remember reading that eggs from BCM hens get lighter as the laying continues ---

I have only one BCM and she is a lovely young girl who started laying two months ago -- five or six eggs a week -- such a good girl --- :-)
The past three days the eggs have been noticeably lighter in color than they were ---

Will she ever 'go back' to laying the really dark ones again -- after next year's molt, maybe?
I love her and, of course, now I want MORE!

I appreciate the help from all the experts on here!
